(don't kill them)
By the way, I fucking love Mass Effect.
That being said.. I'm glad they didn't CHANGE the ending because of these whiny kids. And I'm ok with some added context being thrown on top.
I thought the whole ending controversy was a ploy to sell us a better ending, but it being free is great.
At least BW's trying though. But yeah I agree that this was most likely the plan all along, minus the free thing.
Yep same here. I didn't hate the ME3 ending, but I wouldn't mind seeing further explanation added. The game had much bigger issues that the a crappy ending was not on the top of the list of things to worry about for me.
If this works and the fans, minus the raging internet fanboys and silly white people, can actually help provide constructive criticism in such a powerful and direct manner, I dunno, seems like it could push the medium forward in some way. Then again, if its just some bullshit happy ending like the did with Brazil, then Bioware and the fans gain nothing. So yeah, I'll wait and see but I have hope this will end up being a positive for everyone involved.
Yeah I won't argue that but I think the plan all along was to charge for it so a small victory I guess. More of a delay of the inevitable.
Who knows maybe that golden turd actually shook them up more than they let on?
I just hope the extended cut is more coherent than the initial ending they offered. Remember EA/Bioware it doesn't have to be "happy" just not "ZOMFG WTF that doesn't make any sense!"
It wasn't ever about the ending being a sad panda it was about the lapse in quality and glaring plot inconsistencies.
Sorta like reading a novel written by one author and getting to the last chapter to find out it had been written by some hack who had only loosely glanced over the crib notes for the book.
Even though every other art form, besides actual art, has done this?
Even though a large number of fans don't care about if it ends happily, they just want an ending that isn't riddled with plot holes, breaks characters and goes against the themes put forth over the last five years?
Revisions to endings aren't what's stopping gaming from being a completely accepted art form. People accepting shit on their plate and asking for seconds, just because the shit's been shaped like Michelangelo's David, is what's holding the medium back.
Buttfuck it, there will never be a consensus on anything that exists. Some people just really, really love excrement.
Kudos to BioWare, regardless, for making this move in the first place. Don't care if I get a happy ending, I just want an ending.
"If this ends up being "Text" epilogues then fuck it, worthless piece of shit. Have no place in Mass Effect."
I think you might end up being very disappointed then, because this is precisely what a whole lot of people were specifically requesting, and it certainly would be the easiest way to go about it.
I'm with you though, that sounds ridiculous.
The ending sucked, but I don't see why people put all of their rage there. There was a lot of bad writing throughout the entire game. It's so easy to tell what was written by Bioware's good writers like Drew whateverhislastnameis and what was probably written after he left.
I do not believe Bioware is obligated to offer a full fix, nor were they obligated to do this half-ass extension. They certainly weren't obligated to do it for free. But don't call me entitled because I'm unsatisfied with a crap portion of a title and I want to lobby for it to be fixed. I'd be ecstatic to pay for a proper fix. I'm disappointed its not coming. For such a great game and a fantastic trilogy to end like this is a shame.
I would like to, regardless of the topic (which, is awesome btw. Glad to hear Bioware are listening to the point where they understand that they didn't really fulfil their obligation to us from hyping it up the way they did) congratulate everyone's use of Bryan Danielson's latest gimmick.
Yes, it's Bryan Danielson. Just as it's also Tyler Black.
I can easily see the big publishers bringing in random street schlubs to look at some stuff and decide on changes based on their reactions.
Which will make every game the same pretty soon, just like how hollywood movies all feel like the same 10 movies eternaly remade.
Having not played the third game yet (still enjoying the first one) I really have no clue how the ending is bad except that many people say it cones down to three different colored beams...
that is pretty pathetic given the fact the whole series is based on that you "choices" change the world. I would have to agree with Ben Croshaw that it is really dumb that you can skip "ALL" of the side missions and get the same ending.
Generally most games give you a darn good reason to play through the side missions (extra characters, endings and content)
For a game that plot is not terribly different from a "choose your own adventure book" to have one singular ending to the whole series is dumb.
That is why artistic integrity in this game should be thrown out, because the developers for some dumb reason cannot understand their own product... which is really a horrible place for them to be in.
This is almost as bad as Lucas putting Darth Vader screaming "NOOOOOOOO! NOOOOOO!"
