Mass Effect 2's Facebook page has an announcement stating a new release date for the game: "in the first three months of 2012."
"The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations," says executive producer Casey Hudson.
Worse news for us than the Genophage was for the Krogan, to be sure. What are we going to play now? Skyrim?
[Thanks, DW and Paul!]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
november was too full gaming wise lol
I'm prepared to wait as long as need be for the GOF.
can't wait!
I can live with the delay, gives me more time for my Epic 100% completion run through of ME 1 & 2.
Also Kaidan coming back so gay hope I can kill him off.
Liara coming back as a Squad mate, so awesome.
Just played Lair of the Shadow Broker for the first time on my 2nd ME2 playthrough...ugh, Liara. I wanna give her blue babies so bad. I won't even bone Jack or Tali on this playthrough, just in case my abstinence pays dividends in ME3.
This means I can focus on Arkham City though. What, did you think I was gonna say Skyrim? Pffft. Dat Elder Scrolls shit? Gurl, please.
GOF = Game of Forever, obviously :)

I'm in pain T-T
While I would have loved to play ME3 earlier, I'll likely add it to my backlog and pick it up when it's cheap. One good thing about waiting to grab ME2 when it hit $30 at Best Buy was that it coincided with DLC price drops on Live. Paid for and played all the content (except for the most recent one) for less than $50. Can't argue with that.
More time in the oven is just what the doctor ordered after the debacle of Dragon Age 2, which according to many, was shit out in 12 months.
NOOOOOOO
DAAAMMMIT
WHY!!!!
But the thought of it being better makes me happy... NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!?!
One of the very few games I was looking foward to play this year. Fuck.
Someone owes me a steak dinner and a 12-pack of good, craft brewed suds.
You know who you are.
In all honesty, though, Q1 would essentially be a two-year development cycle from Mass Effect 2 to Mass Effect 3, so it is still coming out in standard time. I will gladly wait for ME3 to be as great of an experience as it can be.
I don't mind. It just means I will actually purchase this on release instead of waiting a few months anyway. So for me this makes practically no difference at all.
