A brand new free app is available for consumption for you Apple-indoctrinated folk. Mass Effect 3 Datapad is essentially a lore tome, character interaction interface, and mini-game all in one. The mini-game aspect is in the form of a sidequest called "Fleet Commander", which allows you to deploy fleets to your console/PC copy of Mass Effect 3 and increase your Galactic Readiness Rating -- by tapping!

For anyone who has played Mass Effect 3, Galactic Readiness Rating will be a familar term. For everyone else, it's basically how prepared every part of the universe is for the Reaper invasion (which will affect your ending) -- it requires access to the game's online pass, and can also be upped by multiplayer and Mass Effect Infiltrator.

To be clear, there are two Mass Effect 3 apps out right now. Datapad is a companion app, and Infiltrator is a fully featured third person shooter with touch controls.

Cue: "no Android, no buy!"
