Whoa! BioWare just melted my brain. Literally. Globs of pink, sticky goo are currently leaking out of my ear. I haven’t the slightest idea how I’m writing this paragraph right now, but it’s happening. And I’ll tell you what else is happening -- BioWare's teaser trailer for Mass Effect 2.
The opening of the vid reorients you with some of the missions and friends you met in Mass Effect as the faceless Commander Shepherd. The presentation may be all blue boxes and friendly text, but there’s a hell of a twist at the end.
Shepherd’s "status" is revealed as “Killed in Action.”
I’m too busy trying to clean up my brain goo to analyze this properly, however, this is certainly a surprise. It also begs a few questions. Is this just a simple plot element? Will our stats transfer to a new protagonist? Will we play a clone of Shepherd? Robocop program confirmed?
I don't know. I need to watch this four billion more times.
I doubt he's dead. It's going to be something more along the lines of something bad happening to make everyone thinks he's dead while he's out beyond the Perseus Veil in Geth space.
Also, Professor Pew hit it on the head when commented on one of my (many) Mass Effect themed C-blogs about his desire for Mass Effect 2's quality. He said "I hope Mass Effect 2 will be to Mass Effect 1 what Baldur's Gate 2 was to Baldur's Gate 1". We should only be so lucky.
This was an amazing trailer. Jesus Tits. but someone said that the geth was holding shepards armor, therefore it was empty and I think shepard is alive, watch it again and you'll see it.
If Shepherd really is dead I wonder if we'll even play as a human in the next one. I personally hope this is a misdirection and he/she will still be alive and kicking, but it'd also be interesting to play as an alien who is not necessarilly trusted entirely by the humans yet is working closely with them, to see things from that POV...
