Just announced, this Cerberus Network is Mass Effect 2's dedicated pipeline for downloadable content. It's an in-game portal that will be unlocked by a single-use conde included with the purchased game. Once you're rigged up, you'll be able to get news and game DLC from The Cerberus Network. You'll be getting all of this bonus content and daily updates at no extra charge.
"The Cerberus Network augments and extends the rich universe of Mass Effect 2,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder, BioWare and Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group of EA. “We’re thrilled to be able to reward loyal BioWare and Mass Effect fans with ongoing, high quality content and provide a direct channel for our players to dive deeper into the intriguing lore of Mass Effect.”
The first DLC pack is coming on January 26th, so be on the lookout for that. Launch day. It will include new items and missions, and will introduce Zaeed, a rugged and deadly gun-for-hire who is recruited to join Commander Shepard’s mission to save mankind. More DLC is scheduled for later, including a hovertank called the Hammerhead, and a new armor named the Cerberus Assault Armor. New weapon M-22 Eviscerator Shotgun is also in the works.
Planning to get a used copy of ME2 later on? Don't worry, you'll be able to buy an activation code for The Cerberus Network in-game.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Isn't the card only with the collectors edition

They were talking about this on Joystiq over the weekend and apparently it's in all copies.
This forum post confirms it. Apparently somebody fucked up the press release and they never went out to correct it.
THIS NEEDS TO BE IN MY XBOX RIGHT NOW I CAN HING OUT WITH GARRUS OKAY.
"You'll be getting all of this bonus content and daily updates at no extra charge."
I just finished maxing my ME 1 character out last weekend so I'm good and ready for 2 now!
goddammit
What if you get the game 1st Day, but like me your 360 is sadly in repairs. Will I still be able to get this Day one DLC cause I still bought it first day?
If you want the extra content you get from buying new - you stump up a little more cash. If you're not bothered no worries.
Fuck off Bungie and IW, Bioware is the real deal.
Anyway, this DLC sounds very good. The news of later DLC including a hovertank makes me wonder if vehicles play just as big a role in this game as the Mako did in ME1, and if they've improved those controls. Anyway, ME2 will be fantastically awesome, and Necron117 is entirely correct about Bioware's status.
The new vehicle isn't drivable according to OXM. I dunno what's up with that DLC news. Maybe it'll do new stuff? I dunno.
Why are you happier that I used two hands to give you one bunch of bananas?
If only I had money for this game. lol
So we get a none drivable Hovertank. That seems a little weird! Maybe it's closer to a hovering bot of somekind, that supports you.
Anyway, the walmart in east meadow, new York has mass effect 2 on it's shelf. I didn't have the money to get it today though! ><
Why would I bitch? I still got my bunch. And especially applicable in this case is I still got my bunch for the same price.
I was pretty sure that the DLC on lauch day was supposed to cost money. And I thought this as ass. Pardon my dust.
Also; "@XanderSan, unlike bananas in game assets take time and effort to produce"
I love this sentence so much I'd like to get a house in the country and raise a family of little clauses with it.
This.
People see "DLC" and "day one" and they bitch before they read the goddamn thing. That's the internet for you.
I'd like to see some of these people in a school setting, reading the first sentence of Great Expectations and then writing a 10-page essay about how Pip is obviously gay because his name is "Pip."
It should just be in the game regardless. Or be a timed exclusive. As in, if you buy it new, you get it free, but if you wait a few months, Cerberus is free in general.
I CAN get behind it because I don't mind the fact that people that buy it used will have to pay for the content. I actually LIKE that the money is going to the developer, and I say this as a proponent of buying games used.
It's not like the DLC already announced is huge, otherwise I'd be more inclined to agree with you. The likelihood is that you'll still save money buying it used - yet you can still contribute to the developer.
This is an ethos I can get behind - as long as they don't get greedy and charge an arm and a leg. If they keep it a sensible, reasonable amount I have no problem.
The new vehicle isn't drivable according to OXM. I dunno what's up with that DLC news. Maybe it'll do new stuff? I dunno.-
It wasn't even IN the game they reviewed. They didn't have this DLC downloaded. The Hovertank will be fully driveable when you download it...geez.
If this is all free, I've got no problems with it. If I have to pay extra for the Hovertank access and missions to use it, I may be a bit POed....
I guess I was thinking about the new Mako replacement.
@XanderSan
I guess my thing is if it HAS to be DLC it's free so I'm fine with that. It's very possible that bunch of bananas was too big for one hand. How do we know?
As for the DLC, good on them to do this.
In game, there is no more Mako.
Side missions in the game are now accessed via the Kodiak, an auto-pilot drop ship that looks a bit like a wheel-less Mako. You get dropped off, and walk around, no driving.
The Hammerhead, which will be added via DLC later on, is the Mako-replacement (a hovertank), and will come packaged with new missions meant to be accessed by driving around newly opened planets with it.
Of course if a Destructoid Staff Writer wanted to investigate this I'd sure as hell read it.
EA Store and Amazon are offering an exclusive armor. GameStop is offering a different set of armor and the crazy ass black hole gun as their own exclusive. I don't know if CE has any exclusive digital content but regardless the DLC and the Cerberus cards are open to everybody.
@trickfred
Thank you. This is the first I've heard of the Hammerhead.
I agree it is frustrating.
Now if only I didn't use my 2nd playthrough on ME1 to go Renegade/Bad(read: be a douchebag to everyone), I'd be happy.
Hopefully the DLC won't go the way of ME1's stuff. AKA one decent mission and a really bad mission for $10 a pop.
It's just DRM on consoles, the game became tied to your LIVE account, the Steam model. It's essentially digital-distribution, only the content arrive on physical discs so saves you the download. PC folks bought into it, revoking themselves the right to resell games. At least they got occasional Steam discount. Now the plague has spread to console, and what benefit does it bring to you?
