Just like that time when the official EA Web site had Left 4 Dead 2 listed as a PS3-bound title, the publisher says the recent smattering of Mass Effect 2 PS3 listings are bogus. In a conversation with Eurogamer, EA has said the listings are incorrect.
Don’t get too bummed and hit up that noose in the closet just yet. Currently through Amazon, pre-orderers of the PS3-bound Collector’s Edition of BioWare’s other upcoming RPG, Dragon Age: Origins, can net themselves a cloth map, a tin box, and “an unlockable item for Mass Effect 2.” The game may not be coming, but at least you’ll be a proud owner of a bad download token.
Or that was an error as well. We can’t tell anymore.
[Thanks, Leonharfs!]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Sure, I'd have probably given it a rent if it came to PS3 but i've got way too many games to play as it is.
Mass Effect 2 is gonna be epic, though. Whatever system(s) it ends up on, everyone should get it.
Oh that's right fanboys aren't gamers they are just whiny bitches who happen to game, my mistake, carry on with yer bizzare loyalty to companies.
The lack of ability to play ME1 or 2 is nothing to do with fanboyness, it's about not having a gaming PC or an errorbox. A wise choice I find. Although a a gaming PC would be nice if monies allowed.
Mass Effect was one of the best RPGs this generation, and the second one looks like it's going to be even more incredible. People who claim they "don't care" about the series are really missing out on something fantastic. Anyone with a 360 or PC should jump on this game (and maybe PS3 in the future?).
Just as much as all the comments so far.
I'm sure someone you know has an ok PC. Play ME on that ($300 would make you a PC that can run it).
my PC runs it just fine and all I had to do was spend $60 on a video card. That and the PC itself cost me around $400. This misconception of gaming PCs being expensive really needs to stop. There`s very few games that force you to spent a lot of money on a PC. Crysis being one of them.
I'm actually agreeing with you! I'm encouraging him to basically get a PC at some point for cheaper than a launch PS3, to play this game somewhere down the line, because I don't think he's going to get a 350.
The whole "best RPG ever" thing is more sarcastic as it's a completely subjective. My best RPG is not your best RPG.
Oh, and Demon's Souls is as much RPG as Diablo is.
We all know that Mass Effect is amazing and for people who refuse to play it for one reason or another are truly missing out. We just also hafta remember who trolls these kind of ps3 letdown topics or xbox failing topics, and to stop feeding them to encourage them to move along.
It is true that the PS3 wont seem to get Mass Effect, and that sucks. End of story.
I still need to pick up the Orange Box too, and possibly the Witcher.
This reminds me of the L4D2 fiasco. Something about EA making these mistakes, haha. However, I know the first ME was published by MS, so how would EA publish the game when MS has the rights? Can anyone explain to me how this works?
Never played Mass Effect 2. Will hopefully play the first game one day.
Sorry PS3 owners, you've always got the PC version though.
MS doesn't have the rights. BioWare did but was bought out by EA, so now EA has the rights. MS only published the first 360 edition, and EA published the PC edition.
@texasgoldrush
I can't agree with you since my Demon's Souls is in the mail despite being a pre-order buy, but I'm still not sold on ME. Dragon Age: Origins however, I'm pre-ordering too. I've read that ME didn't deliver all that it promised from more than one source, but since I never saw any promises and have low expectations, I'm hoping to enjoy it if and when I ever decide to buy it.
Surprises that so many people are raving about it ever since the sequel was revealed because I know that wasn't the case back when it first came out. Reminds me of Uncharted and how under-hyped that game was but now everyone is raving about part 2.
Heh...that's an Anthony review of a blockbuster game you're citing: he's in the minority.
GET MASS EFFECT! You can pick it up for around $15-20 brand new, and it's completely worth it. It has a ton of flaws, but none of them ruin the game in any way. I think a lot of people cried about the cover system, expecting Gears of War.
Forza 3, ODST, Alan Wake.....
So many games, so little time. 2010 is going to be sweet!!!
The real stupid thing is that most of those "PS3 fanboys" probably HAVE already played Mass Effect; they just played it on PC instead. Seriously, why should any PS3 fan get up in arms about a 360 "exclusive" that is available for PC? It's not like they are missing out on anything. To a PS3 owner, what's the difference between the game coming out for PS3 and the game coming out for PC?
Besides, PC versions of games tend to be much more open to the potential of user made MODs =p
The concept of story-driven sequel games shifting or expanding platforms by themselves makes zero sense. Just buy a decent graphics card and play it on PC.
If you have the ability to get it on Steam, do it!
The Mass Effect review here on this site is the one of the few that doesn't hail ME (actually that review is the lowest score on Matecritic, an outlier basically). For every one of this type of review, there were 20 others that hail the game. Even fans (and bioware) admit this game had flaws, but it offers things not found in the vast majority of games. On IGN, its the the top Xbox 360 game of all time. Mass Effect is one of, if not the, best game of the generation. And ME2 is going to fix the flaws of the first game...........this series is hot property. Dragon Age will be good, but its Mass Effect 2 that everyone is waiting for.
Personally, its a top 5 RPG, along with FF6, Chrono Trigger, Fallout 1+2, and Suikoden II.
As a PS3 owner and former Xbox 360 owner, I wanted to play this. Not so much that I would buy an Xbox 360 again, but enough to be upset. Ah well. There's still Demon's Souls.
Fuck sake, now it's either upgrading my PC or investing in an xbox...... ;.;
Fuck my life.
Yes, it's not coming to PS3, so what? I'm not gonna whine about it, as the whole "Best RPG ever" thing is a pointless argument. It's all about peoples opinions of a game, 1 mans meat is another mans poison.
No game can ever be called the best ever, only the best in that persons mind.
I'll form my own opinion on whats the best, I'll admit it will probably be a really good game, but there will be others come along immediately to better it, such is the way of the games market these days.
