I mean, you don't miss a WHOLE lot, but it's just so silly to play the second game in a franchise without playing the first.
Seriously, though, that's really unexpected. I do already have ME2 on the PC, but I'm certainly going to check the PS3 demo out. The thing is, I haven't finished playing the PC version yet, I got too caught up in Fallout: New Vegas, Borderlands, and GT5, so I'd probably be more inclined to picking up a PS3 version than most who own it on PC.
Mass Effect 2 on PS3:

You just got quoted, son.
I'm commander shepard, and this is my favorite store on the citadel.
Mayhap some PS3 owners played the first on the PC and will just make the appropriate decisions in the comic in order for it to play out accordingly?
I can't wait either. I can't believe no one else has caught on to that one guy's strategy of saying "You're such a pussy fart." every time sofik shows up. Everyone should really give it a try, trust me, it's great.
Bioware cannot port the first game to the PS3 because Microsoft holds the distribution rights, and when Bioware asked Microsoft said no, hence the interactive comic + DLC.
Anyway, I will be getting this one, I got the first two on PC and I hate using the keyboard to move. If there was an integration of joystick and mouse, I'd be all over that, but I'd rather play it on PS3.
That's a pretty good incentive for new buyers though. Might make a few people try it out to see how ME3's engine is like.
I very much disagree with you. I often skip the first game in a series. Why? The first game often isn't very good, but the second is sometimes so good that it's impossible to pass up. It's not like we're talking about a series of novels here, the plot of the first game is often explained within the first few minutes of the second game, or with well know series, everyone knows it by Internet-osmosis, anyway.
As far as this being unfair, it probably is in a very small way, but you can't fault BioWare. Given a chance to improve their product, they went ahead and did it. No one actually loses, since they couldn't have done this for the Xbox/PC at the time.
Unluckily for PS3 owners, this first game is very good. If you can pick it up for $10 on a 360 someday, do it.
Luckily for PS3 owners, this first game can be picked up for very cheap on Steam. If you can pick it up for 19.99, why would you want the xbox version?
If I can't I will be getting 2 on ps3 so I can then continue the story on ps3.
But hopefully I wont be doubling down.
Not enough to make me repurchase or even rent, though. I've been with Penis Shepard since the beginning, and I'm not about to abandon him now.
Mass Effect 2 for PS3 will have an interactive comic that will go over the events of ME1 and allow you to make many of the decisions that affect ME2.
Yes it's not as good as playing the actual ME1, but do you really spend time playing ME1 knowing you can play ME2 instead?
