Marvelous wants to step up from Wii to 'more hardcore platforms' photo

Well, Marvelous, we would love to see that, too. But we get why focusing on the Wii for now is a good idea; huge install base, cheaper development, and technical hurdles figure into the equation, right?

Marvelous CEO Yasuhiro Wada explained his Wii focus in a recent interview, saying that Nintendo has been good to them. Their next two games, No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle and Little King's Story, are also Wii exclusives. But he'd like to someday more onto other consoles. He says in a Gamasutra interivew that he is "very interested in the more hardcore platforms."

"All of the development projects that are going on require a lot of technical skills and techniques, and we'd love to eventually improve to the point where we can go on to the PS3, 360 and PC," says Wada.

And it seems like they're about to overcome the money and skill hurdles:

"To be honest, we always wanted to make a game on the hardcore platforms, but at that time, there wasn't enough money or skill. But now, I think we're at the point where we can actually go into it and start thinking that we can actually do it."

We're looking forward to that, Marvelous.

Makes sense to me. There are a few developers out there who said that they wanted to make their games for Linux but didn't have the time or talent to do so. Those companies are now more successful and profitable have released Linux binaries for their games or helped the Linux community make binary ports. No reason for Marvelous to not take the same approach with consoles.

That said, No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle can't get here soon enough...

Wait, Suda's company is Grasshopper Manufacture, not Marvelous. And if Marvelous is making NMH:DS, then that means Suda isn't involved! Or does he own both of them? Is Marvelous just the publisher? Fuck, I've gone and confused myself.

Actually, NMH was by Grasshopper and Marvelous. I think it was Marvelous produced? Or developed jointly between the two, something like that. So yes, Marvelous is doing NMH:DS too.

NMH was a great game but I have issues with some of the visuals since the Wii can only do SD.

I crave NMH in at least 720P

No More Heroes rocked, and I look forward to the next one. I also welcome the idea of them doing something on the PS3.

480P is ED, enhanced definition, but that's just me being picky.

The Wii is no less hardcore then the PS3, 360, PC, or any other console, people like to pretend it is because they automatically associate anything not rated M with being a kiddie game. All a game or system needs to be "hardcore" (fuck I hate that word) is a dedicated base of people who play it regularly. This is why WoW, The Sims, and other games of that nature are just hardcore as gears of war or call of duty.

I'm so sick of this debate and the people who perpetuate it, if the PS2 can be called a hardcore system with the piles of terrible shovelware it had, then why can't the Wii?

Marvelous produced No More Heroes, but Grasshopper developed it. The two companies have teamed up for Contact and NMH as far as I know.

Me? I'm waiting for the official announcement of a much-rumored Suda51 Xbox360 title!
