The law of videogame physics states that a game based on the movie will suck. When the movie is based on a comic book, the game will suck even harder. It'll suck the weeping, milky vagina of Satan's most brazen cattle, in fact. X-Men Origins: Wolverine bucked this trend, and according to Marvel, it's a trend that will continue.
"We are not doing movie-based games anymore," says Marvel Executive Vice President of Global Digital Media Group Ira Rubenstein. "Actually, wait ... we are not doing crappy movie-based games anymore. You can quote me on that."
Rubenstein states that Iron Man 2 has been in production since the first game wrapped up, and doesn't want to be blamed for the abomination that was the original. He also wants us to get excited for the upcoming Thor game, and seems to believe that this all marks the start of comic-based games that we won't be trading in two days after purchase.
Best of luck to him, is all I can say.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
What the F*CK is wrong with you?
Also, where the fuck do these avatar-less dipshits come from, and why do they flock to Dtoid leaving a trail of spewed shit behind them?
What we need up in hurr is another good Spider-Man game to cleanse the memories of Web of Shadows. WHY CAN'T YOU JUST GO BACK TO THE TRUE SWING PHYSICS FROM SPIDER-MAN 2, MARVEL?!
The swinging mechanics themselves were fine, if not a bit too fast or light; there were simply invisible ceilings around every building and above the park. That didn't affect my enjoyment of the game whatsoever.
My biggest complaint with the game was the voice acting and/or script. Spider-Man seemed far too whiny at times (especially in the beginning), but the game leveled out soon after and actually featured a pretty incredibly varied set of endings based on your morality choices.
Any of those complaints go right out the window when you consider how mother fucking awesome the combat system was. The Vulture boss fights were mind-shatteringly impressive in that you were literally using enemies as a means to stay airborne.
As far as I'm concerned, the order of best Spider-Man games goes: SM:WoS, Ultimate SM, and SM2.
Whenever Marvel does release another Spider-Man game, I only pray that it has the same combat mechanics and a city just as big as what we found in Web of Shadows.
I think that's their point. They're jumping on this shit early so they monitor devs. That's why Wolverine was decent and why they say they started cracking on Iron Man 2 early.
I think they'll all follow a good formula for 3-5 years that will be fun the first, passable the second, and old afterwards. Than they'll get a rehaul and repeat.
Believe me, nobody was more psyched for a 616-based Spider-Man game than yours truly. Yes, the combat was very good. The zip-kick was a great addition and should be kept in future games. Yes, the boss fights were great. They were also the highlight of the game, and that's not necessarily a good thing.
Any mission that wasn't a boss fight was extremely tedious and boring. Additionally, I felt that the presentation was extremely lacking. The graphics were very crude, and I actually thought the game looked worse that Spider-Man 3 in some aspects. You already mentioned the voice acting, which was almost universally abysmal.
Push that all aside though, and I think the biggest problem for myself is that the story failed to keep my attention. I never felt sucked in, and things just seemed to happen arbitrarily. I'm a huge Spider-Man fan and I found myself getting bored. And I read One More Day, goddammit! I beat it twice for each ending, but probably won't ever play it again.
@Xzyliac;
Right, that's what I'm hoping on. People are still talking about Goldeneye to this day, and that game was in development for like, forever. Hell, it missed the video release. Was it worth it? yes. Did they make their money back? Absolutely.
