Marvel wants an MMO or two, 10-year deal proves it photo

Yesterday, Gazillion Entertainment announced a 10-year deal with Marvel, ending speculation that a Captain America MMO would never happen. The deal allows Gazillion to create what the Wall Street Journal describes as “multiplayer online games” using Marvel properties.

Gazillion shouldn’t ring any bells. VentureBeat described the developer as “one of the most ambitious game startups in the world." The company has 300 employees and a few games already in development. One of those is the fabled LEGO MMO. The others are original IPs and, I'm guessing, at least one Marvel-based MMO. Gazillion’s jam is (apparently) creating online worlds, so expect several server shutdown stories within the next two-to-three years.

This is great news for every party involved. Gazillion gets a load of characters to play around with (Captain America, War Machine, Elektra). Marvel finally gets its MMO. And you get to play ... but probably not for free. Let’s hope this one gets off the ground better than Marvel Universe Online, eh?

If it comes to consoles and has Deadpool in it I can guarantee I'll be buying it.

"and the marvel universe is a clusterfuck so this has just about endless possibilities"

Unfortunately it's not a clusterfuck for all the wrong reasons.

The fact that Captain America is the article picture makes me think brad is unaware of how bad things of gotten (Captain America was killed off by some vigilante sniper).

Pft. Champions is ran by the hack idiot who nearly ruined City of Heroes before he was gotten rid of.

The day anyone finds even a single way to become decently powerful Jack Emmert will throw a tantrum and scream at players for "just wanting an I win button" and "direspecting his vision"

Again.

City of Heroes ftw. any other MMO has to beat it in quality and design to be worth my time. and while DCUO might be, Champions is looking to basically be CoH2, now with more Jack Emmert.

@Lord The Night Knight

The fact that you think Captain America was killed off by a vigilante sniper makes me think you're unaware of anything that actually happens in the Marvel Universe. Sure, "Cap killed by sniper" was the big headline TWO YEARS ago, but that's not what happened to him at all. Yes, Crossbones (a/k/a "vigilante sniper") shot Cap in the shoulder, but Sharon Carter (Cap's girlfriend) shot him in the stomach three times to actually kill him.

I think that reviving Bucky Barnes and killing Steve Rogers were risky choices, but the Cap series of the past few years has been a consistently great read... and I'm not the only one that thinks so.

Also, I'm not embarrassed to say that I've had that very image as my desktop for a while now.

If they keep Joe Quesada away from it, it will have potential.

Isn't this just City of Heroes with franchise characters as NPCs? God knows that no one can reinvent the same MMO concept too many times (Everquest=>WoW=>Warhammer).
