Marvel vs. Capcom 2 hitting PSN on August 13 photo

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is hitting PlayStation Network later than we expected. Capcom sent word to us earlier this morning that the title would be available via the PlayStation store on August 13 -- many moons from the July 29 Xbox LIVE Arcade launch date.

While this isn’t a delay, we were surprised to learn the release date wouldn’t be closer to the XBLA date. Capcom released a PlayStation 3 exclusive demo for the title in late April, which to us indicated some sort of special brawler bond between Capcom and Sony.

We reached out to Capcom PR about the later date and we hope to hear back from them soon, but in the meantime, here’s some speculation: Siliconera believes the release date has something to do with the now-yoinked GameStop Collector’s Edition version of the game. Manuals do take time to print. We’ll let you know when we know.

[Thanks, Adam!]

Ehh, I'll be grabbing this for my PS3 and not my 360. The Whole controller issue and all. Plus, thats where I learned to play MvC2, on my PS2 edition. It wouldnt be right to swap...

I'm not too concerned. King of Fighters XII will keep more than occupied until this game is released. Hell, it'll keep me occupied after this game is released. I'm excited for MvC2 to play around with some of the Marvel characters I didn't really mess with on my DC version. Online will be fun with friends as well.

@ArcticFox

Me too. I don't feel like spending 40 on a fightpad.

@Chronic:

Yeah, it's supposed to come with some exclusive art and I guess a regular manual.

I don't think that was ever indicitive of a strong link betweeen the two companies. Remember, the beta for SSF2THDR (jesus that's long) ws exclusively on Xbox 360. I think Capcom was just trying to spread the love around by giving the PS3 something exclusive.

Even though I got both systems, I can wait two weeks to play this on the PS3 no problem. I have a lot of games I need to finish anyway. I don't know why people are complaining about this so much. The complaining is almost as bad as when PS3 owners had to wait 7 days longer for the RE5 demo.

I'm sick of hearing about this game. I've been playing it for years on the old xbox, so this release is kinda unimportant.
