Every December 31st, people get all excited about counting down to the new year. It's weird; we don't count down the end of every day, or the end of every week, but for some reason people feel that the end of a year is worth getting excited about. I guess some folks just like counting down to stuff, no matter how anticlimactic it may be. If you're one of those "countdown types" then I have good news for you. I found a new clock for you, and it's actually counting down to something awesome.
At the time of this writing, the site tu4ar.com features a timer with a little more than four days left on it. When the clock strikes zero, we're pretty much guaranteed to get final confirmation on the long rumored XBLA/PSN re-release of Marvel Vs Capcom 2; one of the best looking, easy-to-learn, hard-to-master 2D fighting games ever made.
For my money, the day that Capcom and Marvel broke up was one of the darkest days in gaming history. For my money, Capcom is the only company to make Marvel games that don't feel like cheap, uninspired cash-ins. As excited as I am to buy Marvel Vs Capcom 2 (again), I'm really hoping that this means is that Capcom will again obtain the rights to make new Marvel titles, or at the very least, be allowed to add new characters to their prior Marvel games. Kick-Ass and Gene (from God Hand) for Marvel Vs Capcom 2 DLC please.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Unless we're getting confirmation for something like MvC2HDRemix I'm just going to hold onto my PS2 copy.
I will buy this, but 90% of all matches will be Storm/Cent/Mag infinite combos, which will lead to 99% of others playing as them.
Unfortunately, Capcom will most likely not fix all the infinite combos. X-Men Vs. Street Fighter was another great game that fell victim to every character having infinite combos, thus making for shitty gameplay if you faced anyone who knew them, and forced you to enjoy "infinite vs. infinite" combat.
I love it on my dreamcast, and I'll love it even more on my PS3.
dude I love that gif. i google searched so hard to find it cause i couldnt remember. just kept searching "destructoid take you for a ride" or "destructoid dan hibiki" but i eventually found it again and I rejoiced.
@Bango
EVERYONE remembers how broken it is. That's why I think it's a fucking terrible shit game, but as was stated by Holmes, it's easy to learn. It's a mindless beat em up is what it is. And when you're playing with friends that's all it's gonna be. I'm not gonna play this shit on ranked dude. I'm gonna just play it randomly with friends because I know EVERYONE likes it and it's flashy and has many colors and flashing lights that can hold my attention.
Liken it to having a pie fight with a bunch of your friends and you're all blindfolded. Then when you play against the pro's on ranked, it's like the same pie fight, only those guys aren't blindfolded. And the pies have knives and poison in them.
the only similarities are in that you can throw hadokens and sonic booms in both games, but they're really nothing similar. But you'll probably like it. Soon as you learn how to launch people in the air and combo the shit out of them, and figure out what supers link into what supers well, you'll be fine.
@ Magnalon- I love Marvel Vs Capcom 2 for the sprite work more than anything else. Like you, I don't plan to play the game competitively online, but it will certainly be great just to look at the game again, and introduce it online to guys like adultswim810.
Also, maybe a handful of new characters?
Dante and Deadpool, please?
Uhhhh k! I'll get right on that!
For reals.
SCOOPS!
FUCKING PRINGLES YALL!
FUCK THE KNICKS!
SCOOPS - HAGEN DAZ!
CURLY MUSTACHE!
Oh wait, I don't have a 360/PS3 :/
Ruby Heart
Amingo
Jin
Zangief
War Machine
Venom
Gambit
Wolverine
Hell yeah.
I'm not sure I want anyone to balance it. Part of the joy is the elegant lopsidedness of the game.
hell... YES!!!
I'd like to see MvsC2 and Children of the Atom hit PSP, which is great for fighting games but lacks them.
Perhaps its time to compile Capcom Classic Collection Vol 3, Capcom. I need some CPS2 and CPS3 love.
That is all.
