P.T. Anderson's Boogie Nights is far and away one of my favorite modern films. The scene where Mark Wahlberg's character Dirk Diggler passionately (and poorly) sings "The Touch" in a sound studio, while a miserable looking Michael Penn mans the boards, will live with me forever. It's a scene that elevated Wahlberg above his bad boy, joke-like Marky Mark persona, and made him something more -- an acting God.
So it's with great pleasure that I deliver the news that Twentieth Century Fox has approached Wahlberg to star in the film adaptation of Max Payne. According to Variety, the Beau Thorne penned scripped will be directed by John Moore, and will begin filming early next year.
Excited? I am, even though the film is likely to stray so far from the fiction of the games that it will be unrecognizable. And I wasn't kidding when I said I loved Boogie Nights. Seriously, go watch that film again, because it's absolutely brilliant.
Will he be addicted to pain killers? Cuz that will be awesome if he's just constantly downing them by the handful in the movie. And he has to chew them! I want to hear the crunching.
I'm not fully convinced marky mark is quite grisly enough to be max payne, but if he smokes about 60 fags a day for a few months before shooting, he could well pull it off. Guess colour me optimistically cautious.
Man, That has always been one of my favorite scenes in any movie!
The only one that beats it is the scene where the big lebowski tells "The Dude" that "real men cry too" while he "does a J." and says "far out". Holy shit, I'm baked right now....
I think he is the wrong person for Max Payne. Why don't they just use the guy that modeled for the Max Payne 2 character? Unless he can't act. But I think that they could definitely pick a better person for this role, nothing against Mark.
Watch The Departed and then see if you don't think he has the chops to play Max Payne. His back and forth insult trading with Baldwin in that one scene was great.
I'd say Marky has the skills. Slick back and dye his hair and I think he'd be able to pull it off. The painkiller thing - that would make the character. It would be difficult to capture the core parts of the games in the movie, though - the serious-but-not-really noir atmosphere, the constant bullet time, the increasingly wounded main character - definitely doable IMO, but also really easy to screw up. If the Hitman movie doesn't suck, I'll believe this one can exist.
The Departed was a great movie, but unfortunately that had absolutely nothing to do with Mark Wahlberg. Sure, his performance wasn't as bad as Matt Damon's, but it definately wasn't anything special. Hell, after seeing that film, I'd be more prepared to see Leonardo DiCaprio play Max Payne. He even looks the part more than Wahlberg.

That is all.
although i dp like mark wahlberg.
Nick, did you see Marky in The Departed? That's my second favourite role of his (after BN). He was brilliant.
But they were lying that whole time until now.

The Departed....enough said.
Get someone who looks more... awesome
Dirk Diggler forever!!!
...
now that i think about it, max payne 3 or GTFO.
also, do an image search on "Mark Wahlberg" and you'll see how much of a fag he is
Haven't seen The Departed. It's been mentioned a few times in the comments, so I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend!
I don’t know if I see Mark Wahlberg in this role...I mean, I think he can pull it off, but I don’t think his voice would work if they did narration...
I say dye the hair black and he'd be good to go...
