With a plethora of Star Wars games out there dealing with the rebuilding of the Jedi after the events of episodes IV, V and VI old Luke Skywalker has been showing up every once in a while. One would assume that since Mark Hamill played young Luke Skywalker and he is now older that he would be a perfect fit to voice old Luke Skywalker. The actor is already a veteran of voicing videogame characters, so logic would lead one to believe he'd be a perfect fit.
Yet he has never been asked to voice Luke Skywalker in a game... ever. Speaking with gaming mag PC Zone, Hamill was discussing his game voicing career when they asked him about voicing Skywalker. "When I played Luke from 1977 to 1983, games were in their infancy. I talked about turning a page and starting a new chapter. Those movies had a beginning, middle and end, and everyone sort of moved on," he said.
"I don't really know how to answer that, because I've never been asked to do it. That's fine, though."
"If you're playing Luke the way he was in the films - from his late teens to mid-'20s - I've outgrown the role. In the story, Luke is so boy-next-door farm boy, it's like Dorothy in Oz. All the other characters that surround him are fantastic."
I'd like to say I'm terribly upset by this radical injustice, but it's hard to care when the man himself doesn't care. He's way better as the Joker anyway.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
On the other hand, he's probably expensive as hell to get(for Star Wars related projests anyways) but he's been great in the other games he has done, so we know he's good, maybe too good to afford?
He's made a career for himself, and hasnt really tried to trade off his Star Wars fame.
He's always been happy to lampoon his Star Wars background (See Cockknocker, that was the best part of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)
So good on him, and half of Arkham Asylum's win came from his Joker...
Hate taking it off topic, but I've always wondered this too. I know he said "my bad", but I just wanted to point out that you're not alone Lantern. I too want to punch someone in the face everytime I see "old news".. when generally that "old" news is like 4-5 days old. People forget "old" is relative.
What's weird is that I always thought Jedi Knight II used him. I had to look it up just barely. The Luke Skywalker in that game sounds more like the young Mark Hamill in Star Wars than Mark Hamill does, these days.At least, to me. Or maybe I'm just misremembering the voice. It's been years since I played the game.
Had Luke not been Vader's son, he would have just ended up being a moisture farmer on Tatooine for the rest of his life - a loser, in other words. There is nothing inherently interesting about his character than his ancestry and destiny.
Had Vader's Mom not spent so much time fishing down by the river near the nuclear plant, he wouldn't have had so many metachlorians in his blood, and thus wouldn't be able to do such fantastic things as choke people through a TV screen.
Everyone is a loser unless they got that "one thing" going for them.
Nolan North plays Luke Skywalker -- confirmed.
OH SHI-
And Bill Murray got the guy who did his character's voice fired (for sounding too much like Garfield the cat, which the guy, also did the voice for). Then he goes and does the Garfield the movie voice.
Wasn't like the last non-Star Trek voice-over he's done the king in Atlantis?
Mark is an awesome actor but the character Luke is a pussy.
And it would be kind of creepy rooting for a guy who does the Joker a little too well.
