Actor Charles Martinet, the man behind the voice of Mario, has revealed that he's working on an autobiography. The book, which Marninet hopes to have ready for a 2008 release, will focus on his time working with Nintendo.
"I've actually started working a little bit on a book," he tells CVG, "but it's about finding the discipline to keep going. But I will be inspired [to finish it] by the fans."
As the voice of the one of the most iconic characters of our time (next to Mr. Destructoid, of course), an autobiography could provide a good deal of insight on what it's like to work for the videogames giant. We would also like to request that Martinet explain why Mario has an Italian accent, when we've all been given the impression that he was a plumber from Brooklyn. As far as we can tell, it was unlikely that Mario was born in Italy, and the only time he visited the country was in Mario is Missing. We can't imagine he picked up the accent in the short amount of time he spent there. It just makes no sense.
Additionally, we'd appreciate it if Martinet could also speak a bit on whatever medical condition he has that causes him to give the "thumbs up" every time a camera flashes. Do a search for Martinet on Flickr, and you'll see what I mean. It's downright bizarre.
This man is a pervert.
Do not go NEAR THIS MAN!
liqideos, How dare you hate on Charles Martinet! THAT MAN IS A SAINT
Dude loves the thumbs up, that's for sure.
Also, from the side he looks a bit like a young Marshall Applewhite.
Wow, cash grab off his book tour.
riding on the hype of Galaxy's success
I might buy this book :D.
"It's a me, Mario!"
Mmm, I don't think Mario ever did go to Italy, not even in Mario is Missing... that was Luigi.
O.o
I wish he'd talk more.
Will Destructoid be reviewing this book as well?
The name of the book will be:
"I am Legend" :p
If there's a chapter dedicated to heavy cocaine use during the production of Mario 64, then consider me sold.
It would be awesome if the audiobook was made by him using the Mario voice.
haha, the pictures are great, this guy LOVES the thumbs up. He looks like he is heading downhill fast with drugs and booze. I think this man needs an intervention!
Oh man... did NOT need to see him, not sure I will see MARIO GALAXY the same way again.
@Knives
That would be awesome! And at the same time we would all hate it about a quarter of the way into it.
and who could forget such classic... while we're at it:
Yeah talk about riding other's success
He'd be cool to meet but I have no need to read the man's autobiography
soooo it's Martinet, not Marninet? 4/5. 80%. b minus! c if you use that fucking 7 point scale they liked in college
I must have that same disease. The thumbs up is just a natural compulsion.
Rather than asking why Mario's got an Italian accent, I'd prefer to know why after more than twenty years of being an adult, Mario still has not gone through puberty.
books sounds cool. might have to pick it up.
You know, that man could be a pimp, if he were younger and better looking. Or maybe he is. I wouldn't... know... such... things...
@ Dexter:
Dude he has a fucking Mustache! Hes definitely got the forest of love down below...
I'll buy it. I'm kind of curious how he got the job.
How did we end up talking about Mario's junk?
Is it just me or does the Galaxy Mario sound more high-pitched and annoying then the Sunshine or 64 Mario?
Also, according to EP's segment they did on him a while ago, Charles is a narcissist.
An page from the book so far,
Pg. 36
" IT'S A ME MAARIO, A THANK YOU FOR A READING MY BOOK, YAHOOOOOO!!!"
The writing looks AMAZING.
Seperated at birth?
i'd buy his book on audio
Mario is Missing sucked
Is there really a demand for this?
I'm with Necros. How much could there possibly be to this story?
Also, Mario will always have the voice from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show in my head. Did Lou Albano also do the voice acting, or just the live action bits? Either way, that voice just makes more sense to me.
I want to give him a thumbs-up high five.
Cause thumbs-up are awesome.
so it's his fault that when I load up the game disc, my wii shouts "SOOP THA MARIOO GALASSEEE!"
Im a thumbs up guy so this guy easily gets my $$$
Didn't he visit Italy in Mario's Time Machine too?
I'm getting the book despite how he looks. I mean, come on, he's just a voice actor.
OK....He is creepy like big time.
I really cant stand this guy.
I mean, Mario is awesome and all, and I guess he did kind of a great job on his voice but... He's just creepy. He seems all slimy and sleek, kinda like a toad. A big, lazy, pale toad that's been sitting under this money-printing stone for ages, sucking up all the drops of awesomness thats been sprinkled on him by Nintendo.
Uëgch.
