During the very revealing Nintendo press conference last night/this morning a ton of upcoming, very promising games were shown for the Nintendo DS. Out of all the games that put a smile on my face (for which there were many!), the one that made me thrust my hands down my pants was the reveal of Mario & Luigi RPG 3.

I adore the Mario RPG series. I think every single one of the games is strong and I can’t wait for this new iteration for the DS (Lite and i). While not much is known about this sequel, the story supposedly focuses on a disease that plagues the Mushroom Kingdom. Obviously, Mario and Luigi are tasked with finding a cure. This must explain the screenshot that shows the famous brothers traveling through a dungeon set in Bowser’s stomach. Yeah, that’s right; I am already madly in love with this game.

Speaking of Bower, apparently he plays a bigger role than usual in this game. Like Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, will he befriend Mario and maybe even be a playable character? The trailer makes it look like it! Hopefully more info for this potential BEST GAME EVER (!) will be revealed soon. In the meantime, check out the below gallery for the first official screens.

What do you think? Are you excited? Super excited? Ultra excited? Or do you hate puppies and all things amazing?

Needs a scene where Bowser says "Oh! My duodenum!"

I can't remember ever finishing an RPG that didn't have Mario in it.

Oh god I haven't even get through the GBA one yet, it's so hard... I've not even started the second one on the DS...

I didn't much care for the second one, but Superstar Saga is my favorite game for the GBA. Hopefully the triquel gets back what made the first one so awesome. The lack of babies already looks promising.

The only thing I didn't like about M&L:PiT was its length. It was really, really short.

Hopefully Nintendo will raise the bar a bit for this one. I'm definitely looking forward to it. :D

We need Super Mario RPG graphics on this one. I don't care if they look dated, the DS can handle it.

The Mario & Luigi games are awesome! Why don't they put one of these out on Wii, though? I can count all of the RPGs that matter on Wii with no hands!

Mario & Luigi: SSS > SMRPG

Yeah, I said it. Partners in time was a pile a crap though. I really hope this will redeem the series.

will this game play on the regular DS? I guess I'm confused about-why-both screens need to be touch sensitive. I think the DS is fine how it is.

I want this game bad, but I want to experience it to its fullest extent.

Partners In Time was good, though not quite as good as Superstar Saga. This one seems to have its clever moments already, so... Looking forward to seeing what's up.

And yes, Superstar Saga IS the best of the Mario RPG series. Anyone who hasn't played it owes it to themselves to do so.

I'm excited Nintendo's bringing the M&L series back. The question is, is Fawful in it?

(I also second... third... nth the preference of Superstar Saga over Mario RPG)

I really enjoyed "Mario & Luigi" games, although I think Mario RPG is way better than M&L. Squeenix, why don't you join Nintendo and make a real Mario RPG 2 game?

Well, if they put as much effort into a Mario game for the DS as they have with the past few Mario-themed games on the Wii, it should have quite a bit of promise for being a fun and new game, while still having some of the old classic fun that the other Mario games have had. I hope it gives me a good reason to buy another DS.

Honestly, PiT's saving grace was its writing. The game was ultra linear compared to Superstar Saga (I liked the exploration of that game), and it felt kind of phoned in. The battle system was enjoyable, though.

So, excited, but critical.
