Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Luigi and his team have been captured by the Hyrule police force and things are looking bad for the heroes. Kirby, the key witness to the crimes going on in the Mushroom Kingdom will only speak to Luigi so Link makes a deal and arranges a face-to-face meeting between Luigi and Kirby. The meeting is cut short though as Mario breaks into the prison with his army to save Luigi, Samus and the other captured heroes.

I’m really liking There Will Be Brawl with each new episode more and more. Sure it’s a little cheesy, but there’s something about the show that you just can’t help but to like. Check out the new episode after the break. Who do you think the killer is?

Damn Scary, you beat me to it, that's the first thing I thought too. I just started watching these about 2 weeks ago, and man I think they are pretty sweet.

When I started watching this the last time you guys posted it, I didn't think I'd like it. But something about it is just so enjoyable, maybe it's that they have the same twisted view on the video game world as I do.

People should really give this a chance if they haven't yet.

I'm pretty sure its Kirby as he escaped after he was interoigated by Princess plus it was Dedede that ended up devoured so I'm going with my gut on this one.

no puns intended

I need to figure out how to put that ending on a loop. Ending EPIC, Mario EPIC, Kirby EPIC. This was probably the best episode in the set.

Can't wait for the series to end. This is better than just about anything on TV.

aww hahaaa you got meeee!
But seriously, this show would be a decent, yet stale, bit of film. Then they had to go and put computer game characters in it. Why? For the attention. Target demographic. It's the same as that 'PSP for Gurlz' and all the other marketing crap that big companies churn out except this is done by a few people and somehow it's alright? It's selling out, plain and simple.

I'm sure you make references to things in your everyday life. You reference pop-culture and it gets a few laughs. But would you think it was OK if a standup did an entire routine consisting of TV and movie quotes? No, cause that is sloppy and poor.

Rosseh, just because something is popular doesn't mean that it's derivative or somehow "sold out", despite what every indie music fan tells you otherwise.

I really doubt you even saw the episode in the first place, because that description sounds more like Disaster Movie than There Will Be Brawl.

I didn't say anything about it's popularity. Sure, the phrase "selling out" has become stigmatised with people believing anything popular is selling out but in the beginning it meant 'marketing' your work, rather than creating it organically.

What I'm asking is; What does the inclusion of videogame characters bring to the piece? I have watched the first episode and this episode(OK, I skipped through bits of this one)and the writing is pretty decent. Course you could say it's ripped off from hundreds of movies but every aspect of the episodes I watched were pretty solid and that's why I think it's just pandering to a demographic. In fact, their inclusion only takes away from the overall quality.

While Grafton and Mercer claim to be avid fans of Nintendo and that the entire series was written as an homage, it just comes across like they wrote this separately, saw a competition on Escapist or something and swapped out their characters for Nintendo ones for the exposure.

@Rosseh. The inclusion of the characters was an homage. Don't think of what the characters bring to the piece, think of what the piece brings to the characters. All this really is a perception of a different world. It's done in other media as well. Just the other day, I heard a reggae version of pink floyd's dark side of the moon. It was awesome. These things are entertaining because they take what know and distort them, kinda like drugs! @_@.

I don't think you can compare it to changing elements of music. It's tricky to explain but a 3-10minute song, while it can have a similar emotional value, usually focuses on a single emotion or issue, sometimes a few, but never as many as multiple hours worth of film. For me, a bit of fun would have been maybe the entire thing abridged into a single 16 minute episode, that's just a quirky idea/experiment realised.

Maybe if they had adapted the costumes to the real world it would have seemed more like a distortion but the costumes add to what seems like fan service really. A distortion would have been like those great pieces of art in 'I Am 8-Bit' where they depicted Mario's world but twisted and dirty. They could have set it in that world, distorted in some way, and explored the possible connotations of each character's actions.

A bad example would be how a lot of people have made those flash movies where Mario is just trying to have sex with the princess. That is a distortion and an exploration of that world. This, on the other hand, just comes across like a classic serialised thriller with videogame characters transplanted in. So I don't think the piece brings much to the characters either but I could be wrong about that one if I watch the whole series. So it looks like I may have to do that to see for myself.

This is such an awesome series, but now I have to wait like another month. So sad! I guess I have the complete series to console me... and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has watched the whole thing over and over.

I wish they'd release the soundtrack.

I'm thinking it could be Master Hand, Olimar, or Bowser.
