Marcus Fenix voice actor talks stardom and nerd boners photo

The man behind the voice of Marcus Fenix in Gears of War and Bender in Futurama loves the fact that he’s a star of two commercial successes – even if it’s kind of creepy that people recognize him. Recently in an interview with TheFukerton (via 1UP), John DiMaggio explained voicing both these excellent characters with the best analogy ever:

I can only put it to you this way: It's like a double nerd boner. It's huge. It's a double-ended nerd boner.
DiMaggio then went on to explain the oddity of people recognizing him. He said, “I’m not even on stuff a lot. I get on-camera gigs here and there, you know, it's cool, but people see my face and they're like, 'Hey, you're Bender!' or 'Hey, you're Marcus Fenix!' And I'm like, 'Dude, you haven't even seen my face. How the hell do you know this?'"

I’ve only heard DiMaggio speak out of character on a few occasions, but he seems like a genuinely funny guy. Then again, you would have to be to voice Marcus Fenix. I can’t imagine taking that role with a serious face, especially after looking at the script for the latest Gears offering. Is there ever a situation that Fenix isn’t yelling or cursing?

I'm amazed at how many people are suprised. He also did the voice of Carmine, which at certain times sounds just like Bender.

Heh. And if you look at the guy, he could probably play Fenix if the movie is still on.

Either you kiddies are pulling my leg here, or I'm just genuinely surprised that so many of you didn't know that DiMaggio voiced both Fenix and Bender?

(what a drag it is getting old)

This is a big surprise to me because I'm not a big fan of Gears so I never would have been able to recognize this. I am a huge fan of Futurama and if I'm not mistaken he is from Alabama so ++.

WTF I thought Fenix was also the guy that did Ironhide on the original Transformers.

I thought that was so cool, it motivated me to actually play thru the entire single player campaign.

Now I have confirmed that I fail at life and also wasted my time :~(
