Manhunt 2 coming to PC, ESRB gives it an AO rating photo

A recent ESRB listing confirms that Manhunt 2 is coming to the PC, but it may not be a pretty port. According to the listing, Manhunt 2 PC is an AO-rated title, which means that it has content not fit for minors … or retail. In North American brick and mortar terms, this rating is the touch of death. It cannot be sold in stores.

Confronted with this problem before with the Wii release in 2007, Rockstar resubmitted a gimped version to escape the rating. They earned a solid “Mature” and an invisible ticket to sell the title in stores for their troubles. Not a bad deal.

But that brings us to this: Rockstar obviously has a retail-approved title, so what the hell is in Manhunt 2 making wretched enough to deserve an AO rating? We asked Rockstar and have yet to hear back.

I would assume it's because of mods, if this game is censored like the other versions it could just be modded to remove it. You could do it on the PSP version but it was quite fiddly. I would think it would be a lot easier on PC.

This game isn't very good anyway - im not a fan of violence just for the sake of it.

Back when I had my Ps2 with HDLoader and a Hard drive I managed to download the un-edited version of Manhunt 2.

The edited version had a coloured blur effect that happened as you performed the awesome, brutal murderkills. So you couldn't properly see the pen going into the dude's eye or the chunk flying off his head when you smashed it with a bat. It sucked balls.

However the un-edited version was awesome! With all the blood, gore and full grotesque action, it was how manhunt was supposed to be.

Really sucks that the creme de la creme of Violent adult games are bastardized in this way. i mean if you're over 18 why should you be "protected" from the gore when you still get the gist of wrapping someone's head in a plastic bag and punching them in the face till they die. I mean if it was because it would encourage us to those things, then the edited version encourages us more so - just to see what it looks like without that stupid blur!

why should rockstar care about retail PC game sales, when it's becoming quite obvious that most stores have no interest in selling PC games, AO or not?

Manhunt was always my exception to the rule that violence for the sake of violence is dumb. I don't know why. It always just felt right for some reason.

That said I'm glad the unedited version is seeing release. Kind of wish it got a graphical upgrade and some new modes however.

I wonder if it'll be hitting Steam.

Why should I care about Rockstar PC games, when it's become quite clear they don't give a shit about the ports or fixing them properly even after release.

Bully is completely broken and GTAIV runs horribly for what you get from it.

YES!!!! The first game was great, hopefully the port of part 2 will be smooth and without the retarded Wii blur filters. If it is supposed to be a gory game, show the gore!

My immediate guess is that they're placing their bets on some sort of download-only sales dealy. But what do I know?

Manhunt was not the "violence for violence sake" game that people make out.

It was a quality stealth game where the stealth kills were extremely violent, which in my book is a fucking winner.

I would love a HD Manhunt on my PS3 - make it happen rockstar!

@ Arkanti

GTA4 runs fine for all that it does. Every time a PC game releases that needs a lot of hardware power people act like it does nothing to deserve it. The physics calculations going on constantly in GTA4 alone are worth the processor requirement. The game runs great on a recent machine, i.e. quad core with a 200 series card. Looks and runs a hell of a lot better than my Xbox version, I can promise you that.

As for Manhunt 2 on PC, I will probably get it if it is a bargain title, lke $20 or so. I liked the original and would like to play the sequel, but it will probably look and play do dated now that I can't see spending more than $20.

Weird thing: I don't think Steam sells AO rated games either... Direct2Drive does though, so maybe this will be a Direct2Drive exclusive?

My guess is that they'll actually go through with this, because they can still release it digitally.

I didn't think we'd have to deal with controversy from this game again. Maybe we still won't, but you never know.

This would be a decent commentary on what gamers like. If it does sell well in it's AO form it would be very interesting to see how the industry reacts. It's time that content like this be available to gamers, since it's available in every other media form.

As for the "violence for the sake of violence" argument. Go play COD and enjoy your "sake-filled" killing spree. Violence in itself is unjustifiable so you're stupid and so is that argument. Also it's not real. And it's not even real looking. And you're a child. Also I don't like you.

I have no interest in Manhunt 2, but if they release it with an AO rating I'll buy just to prove that ratings mean shit to me. They need to model game ratings after film. I doubt there's anything more shocking in Manhunt 2 that deserves an AO rating than what you can see in gorno like Saw.

Manhunt 2: Uncensored? Internet darling. I have no interest in actually playing it, since I didn't like Manhunt 1 at all, but I'm excited at the ballsiness of the move. Right now the biggest name AO title ever released is probably Indigo Prophecy's Uncut version.

Here we go again...but assuming their reason is because of mods all PC games should have an AO rating.
