Man who played Lineage II for 20,000 hours sues creators photo

A man who has been playing Lineage II for over 20,000 hours has decided to sue developer NCSoft for getting him addicted to the game. Craig Smallwood of Hawaii claims that the game prevented him from living a normal life, and this is just so pathetic I think my eyes are going to melt.

The suit alleges that Smallwood was "unable to function independently in usual daily activities such as getting up, getting dressed, bathing or communicating with family and friends.” He's upset because NCSoft didn't babysit him, claiming that the company was negligent for failing to "warn or instruct plaintiff and other players of Lineage II of its dangerous and defective characteristics, and of the safe and proper method of using the game."

NCSoft has been trying to get the case dismissed, because it is ludicrous, but the judge has refused. This is the world we live in, where a man can sue a game maker because he played their game too much.

Addicted Gamer Sues Game-Maker, Says He is ‘Unable to Function’ [Wired]

[Oops. That should be 20,000 hours, not 200,00. Fixed]

My god. 200,000 hours? I've played TF2 for about 2000 and I thought that was crazy. And, if anything; I feel the need to give Valve more money after spending that much time, not sue them for it.

You know, all that's needed here was some common sense and self control.

But you can't fix stupid, he probably thought his stupidity could be patched in an update.

Either I am stupid and bad at math but 200,000 hours is 8,333 days which is like 24 years straight. and lineage 2 has been out for like 6 years.

What kind of crazy country allows this to go through court. Haha, ridiculous. I might sue farmers because I have drunk milk all my life. But, i broke my wrist a while ago. I was told that calcium strengthens bones!!

That doesn't make any sense. 200,000 hours is 8,333 days of solid playing. That's 22 years. The game has been out since 2004. Something doesn't make sense to me.

Thats over 8300 (8333.333) days of his life on the game.. I think i miscalculated the years wrong though....I came up with 22 years of his life spent playing. No fucking way. I must be wrong here.

Is it possible to play multiple characters at a time? Like the guy with like 20 monitors playing a huge team of WoW characters? I guess if you combined them all it could make sense.

It would work if he played 4 characters or more at a time. give or take a few.

It have to be 20.000 Hours. That would be 2,34 Years. Maybe he's from the Future, and was one of the last playing Lineage II. So After they Shut the Server down (chause everybody is playing World of Google 3) he travelled back in time to sue the bastards who made his life meaningless. No just kidding, everybody knows the Time on Hawaii is 10 Times faster than regular Time. Duh!

You have been playing for 4 hour. Please take a break.

You have been playing for 6 hour. Get the fuck off.

If memory serves me right, their box, their login, even in game of nearly every NCSoft game I have ever played told you that you need to take breaks. It's even in their safety warnings that you shouldn't play for long periods of time. Apparently the guy failed to witness their hourly warnings to get off.

200,000 or 20,000 is irrelevant, it's still fucking retarded to play a game for so long and then sue the company for it. Pot, kettle, black.

So by this logic any addict of a product that does not meet the physiological definitions of a drug can sue the producer for making them and addict? I wasn't even aware that you could sue tobacco or alcohol companies for making you and addict and their products do meet the criteria for a drug. Whatever happened to individual responsibility for your own stupid choices in life?

I need to find me a rich woman and sleep with then maybe I can sue her for making me a sex addict and take her money if he wins this case
