Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Oh, Internet. First, you shattered my ability to feel empathy for the world’s woes. Then, you killed every scrap of sensitivity that I had with outrageous pictures and video. Now, you have swooped down and taken the original Super Mario Bros. theme away from me. Thankfully, you only did it with a banana.

That’s right, one of the guys from Eegra plays the Super Mario Bros. theme with a banana in the video above. Naturally, I’m wary of what kind of banana that man has. Whenever I run to my grocer for a banana it typically doesn’t scream at me while I cut or peel it.  If it did, I doubt I could manipulate it enough to create a song.

Regardless, this is just another lesson within the beauty of the Internet and videogames. A banana and Mario always equals success.

Proved as fake. Tried it with normal bananas, "niƱo" bananas, "Corazon" bananas, platains and maduros and they only make squish-like sounds. On the other hand I achieve to make the sounds of the last seconds of the video by chugging a bottle of aftershave.

Imagine, if you will, that you found this video somewhere else, in a completely random, round-a-bout manner, so that you had no idea what you would see when you pressed play, and that it didn't have the opening telling you what was about to happen. Now imagine yourself watching that man, tenderly, thoughtfully stroking a banana. The horror of that first ten seconds, before he starts doing what jc275 pointed out he's probably doing...my friends, that's the stuff what nightmares are made of.

You know, I thought this would be on par with the guy who fashioned ocarinas out of different fruits and played themes on those. At least that was fairly impressive. This was...ugh

This really isn't the gaming news that I come here for.

I would expect this on a cblog, but on the front page?

An angry editorial or mildly humorous original content, sure. That I can understand. But just some guy from you tube "playing" a song from mario brothers on a banana? Why? Why is this news? Its not funny or interesting and is barely video game related.

Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.

lol@those who find it necessary to call this out as fake.

Is everyone missing the point that this was obviously done as a way of making fun of the fact that we have about a billion videos out there of unique ways to play the Mario theme? This is probably the most ridiculously overplayed musical endeavor taken on by gamers at the moment. I cringe everytime someone finds a new way to lobotomize a piece of my childhood nostalgia simply because they can. This video, on the other hand, lets me know that I'm not the only one who finds the whole thing ridiculous.

Now if only we could do something about those videogame themed birthday cakes...
