Nostredamus, eat your maggot-filled desiccating heart out. A week ago we foretold that emulation on the PS3 was not only going to be a cakewalk, but the system's raw power and massive storage space would allow it to run Mame, NES (FCEUltra) and any host of ready-made Linux emulators. Not to my surprise at all, here are videos of Mame and Nintendo running on the PlayStation 3. Want to try this at home? The gory details are posted up and down this forum .

In this stage, the software can only be enjoyed by hardcore tinkerers and l33t hax0rz. But nobody wants to hit the command line to run their games, not even hackers. My next prediction is this: in six months or less you'll see a very polished distro floating around that even your grandmother can install. Perhaps more than a handful of investors will also have PS3's by then.

I'd probably do this if the PS3 could actually work properly on my feebly underpowered and unimpressive 65" 1080i TV. Sadly, it doesn't.

Screw 'em. I guess I figured out why the PS3 was delayed so often. They couldn't think of enough ways to screw their customer base over, so they spent all that time thinking up more things.

Linux guys, do your worst.

Oh well, back to the Wii.

I have a feeling that if Sony doesn't move to reign in the emulation Nintendo will. Nintendo has always been pretty proactive against NES/SNES/N64/GB emulation sites. Now they are currently making money (possibly big money) repackaging and reselling their back catalog through VC. I doubt they will set on their hands if people are running Nintendo roms on their PS3. It would be very difficult to fight this or hold Sony responsible (Sony only enabled OS install), but I bet they will try to take some steps to combat this.
