FPS writting doesn´t excel like in any of them. It´s there to make a fiction and that´s it
Narrative in FPS games isn't completely alien. Look at Bioshock, or even Halo. Everyone loves to hate on Halo, but at least the objectives in that game are always framed as part a larger conflict. I actually know WHY I'm fighting the Covenant, and their motivation for wanting me dead. KZ is just "STFU soldier. Just shoot the guys with the red eyes."
Although to be fair, Killzone: Liberation had a decent story. It's a shame that title gets overlooked.
I am also....unsettled by the headline. Body-copy with that word is one thing...but uhh... *shudder*
Anyone remember Admiral Tolwyn?
And here I thought the only reason I was lost was because I skipped the first game and started with 2. Glad to hear I'm not alone in having no idea what's going on!
I have to echo the sentiment of "Please kill that choadmuffin Rico". That sumbitch absolutely ruined the campaign for me.
I haven't played System Shock, but I have played Deus Ex. Bioshock is worthy of it's mention. However, to say that people play Bioshock for it's FPS mechanics is what baffles me. It's combat is different, but the actual shooting isn't really that great.
As for the rest of the people claiming they don't know what's going on in Killzone, I really have to shake my head. I understand perfectly what is going on in the games. It's certainly not all that complex...
System Shock and Deus Ex are two of my favorite games, but I avoided using them as examples because they are just as much RPG as they are FPS. Comparing those two games with Killzone is extremely flawed since the focus in Killzone is combat. Bioshock is more akin to Killzone in the sense that the action is the driving mechanic. You wouldn't compare Mass Effect to Gears of War would you?
Understanding the fact that the ISA and Helghast are fighting doesn't exactly take a brain surgeon. But where in Killzone 2 was there any mention of why they're fighting? That's where my confusion comes into play. All I see/hear is a lot of "They're the bad guys! Let's kill them! Ooh rah!"
Like I said, I never played the first, so I'm sure I'm missing something. But the second doesn't exactly do a very good job of helping people understand what the fuck this war is all about.
douchebag, if you every really played the game and not just BS'ing online, you would know every thing you need to know in the first five minutes of walking around in the game.

Are you kidding me? It explains EVERYTHING. The ISA is there because the Helghast stole a bunch of nukes. Yeah, that happened in KZ: Liberation. But that's why the invasion is happening and that's all that's pertinent.
The extra information was given to those who cared enough to read between the lines of the conversations in Killzone with Hacka as well as Visari's rhetoric. And there was the timeline that GG gave everyone if they really wanted the info dump on the whole conflict.
