Make your own SNES game for $120 photo

You always hear about these homebrew Dreamcast games still being released. For the most part, that's just sad. Now, if it were Super Nintendo games...well, that's still cool. I don't know why, but I'm all over playing new SNES experiences. The 1990's are cool again, right?

Should you have the programming ability to make a new SNES game, the Quickdev 16 makes it relatively easy for you to bang out something tangible. For $120 you'll get a Atmel AVR ATmega644 cart and all the connectors to get your little game on the cart. Of course you could release your game as a ROM to play on emulators, but it's just not the same.

I remember some time back I nabbed a ROM of some horny homebrew game where you controlled the thrust rate of a nude male humping various things with the d-pad. I think it would be fantastic to have that on a cart.

What's so sad about that?

Of course, I am (semi-)working on a Dreamcast homebrew game, so perhaps I'm just not seeing the big picture...

Why they need an ATmega on there is beyond me. Those things are powerful enough to run an entire SNES emu. All you really need is a flash controller and a JTAG port...

This is cool. I've been talking with a few friends for awhile about making a video game on this level.

@RawwrBag - so is there a much cheaper way of doing this then? Presumably it's the hefty chip(s) on this thing that are keeping the price high.
