Magna Carta sequel coming to Xbox 360 ... you'll remember it eventually photo
     japan

You might not remember Magna Carta, and that's okay, because by all accounts, it was easy to miss. I had spent a while getting excited for the game, but eventually stopped caring by the time it finally decided to grace the UK. I am assured I've missed little to nothing.

Despite a rather tepid debut, however, the Magna Carta franchise is set to continue. The original game was a PS2 exclusive, but the next iteration of the series will hit the Xbox 360. There are no solid details at the time of writing. All we know so far is that it exists.

Yet another JRPG finds its way onto the Xbox 360. Weird, that.

[The Destructoid faithful informs me that the original game was both Korean and on the PC. That's just how much this game has resonated with me.]

If you told me at the launch of the 360 that it would have the most JRPGs, I would laugh in your face.

Believe it or not, this was announced in 2005. Ignore the header on this, it's from google cache because the source site doesn't seem to ho back this far in their archives!

Shouldn't Magna Carta be considered a KRPG?

hopefully this one will bring in better reviews than the PS2 one as I heard it really wasn't good.

I doo love the art for it...which got me really hyped for the PS2 version only to be let down.

Yeah was gonna say, isn't this technically made by Koreans? >.>

@ Cotton

And yet it's still more RPGs than PS3 even has on the horizon. Funny, that.

@Shin Oni:
Yeah the art for this game is amazing. The main artist is Kim Hyung-Tae, who is incidentally my cousin.

Yeah, this game was terrible. The dub was bad, and the story was worse. It was too bad b/c the way skills leveled up was kind of interesting. I put it down after about two hours.

I'll definitely give it a shot, but I will also be reading the wiki of the story so far, rather than finishing my PS2 copy. So that's that.

I actually do remember this.
Not the game, but the ad.

Biggest mistake of a purchase I have ever made. Magna Carta was terrible. I truly tried to like it when I bought it, but it was just so bad. Voice acting was terrible, the main character looked like a trap, and the battle system was ATROCIOUS.

Cyclic ring QTE just to do a basic attack? Painful.
Basing your ability to attack on the availability of an element in the area was okay, but making it so that the enemy can drain said element with its attack, preventing you from attacking but still being able to attack itself is just ridiculous. That was the only excuse to have multiple characters in battle, since you could only control one at a time, and the uncontrolled characters just stood there, waiting to be moved (or more often, attacked), despite the real time nature of battle. Just... terrible. It's a shame too, since the whole different styles of fighting you could unlock had potential.

Forcing myself to play it in like 30 minute chunks, I managed to log like 4 hours or so in the game. That's pretty bad, considering how many hours I happily devoted to subpar RPGs like The Legend of Alon D'ar.

The PS2 version had some potential - let's hope the sequel improves on its predecessor. The RPG genre could always use a little shaking up.

It had potential, but it got boring really fast. Too many random battles with a some what boring combat system.

When I hear Magna Charta, I am suddenly reminded of my English lessons, where our teachers tried to explain to us, why Britsh people still haven't gotten rid of their Queen. I'm not thinking about a videogame though.
So I feel about the same as you Jim, especially with that generic name. It will take an amazing review score to at least get me interested in it.

Sure thing, let me ask him and find out. His English isn't 100% but I should be able to translate. PM me your contact info?

Yeah it's korean... but I'd say JRPG still fits in a way because it's totally Japanese style....unless you eat kimchi for HP instead of potions...

....or get invaded instead of invade countries ZING!!

Celdurant and lv99ron summed up my feelings exactly. Glad to see I'm not the only one that put 15 hours into the game, trying hard to like it, but just gave up because it was awful.

Hopefully this one has a completely different system and no voice acting.
