Magicka: Wizard Wars combines PvP with men in dresses

At last, killing your friends is actively encouraged

No game of Magicka is complete without a ruined friendship or two. Fellow wizards have a way of getting in between monsters and fatal spells, and it's always their fault, never yours. The latest iteration of the Magicka series, Magicka: Wizard Wars, finally makes murdering other wizards the focus.

Developed by Paradox's new studio, Paradox North, Wizard Wars is a competitive, twitch-based PvP title that pits two teams of four wizards against each other in dynamic spell-casting combat. The series's quirky brand of pop culture malarkey thankfully remains, as evidenced by the Game of Thrones live-action trailer.

"Magicka has always allowed for some unique gameplay and, with Wizard Wars, we’ve really captured the true experience of PvP wizardry," explains John Hargelid, Paradox North's Executive VP. "When you put the team-focused, hardcore competition of online games together with characters whose attacks are fluid and dynamic – and then give teammates the ability to implode, freeze, and fling each other by accident – it’s really something special to watch, and to play, and to yell at your friends about afterwards."

Magicka: Wizard Wars will be shown at GDC, so keep an eye out for more information soon.
