Magic Carpet, Sorcerer's Maze coming to PS3 and PSP photo

I have not thought about Magic Carpet for at least ten years, and I never imagined I'd be writing about it today. The venerable Peter Molyneux game has been rated by the ESRB for release on the PS3 and PSP, doubtless meaning that it will join the PSOne Classics store.

As well as Magic Carpet, the ESRB has also rated Sorcerer's Maze. If you've never heard of that one, it's basically Arkanoid but with slightly more sorcery involved. Magic Carpet is better known, regarded as an old Bullfrog classic by fans. It probably sucks more than you remember, but for $5.99, it may be worth a nostalgic trip.

While we're putting old Bullfrog games out there, will someone be a dear and re-release Dungeon Keeper?

It sucked at the time, too. It was an amazing piece of tech and a completely fresh experience. What it came down to, though, was a flight sim except with handling like a ... well, a rug. Pretty cool that the new gen gets a chance to check it out.

Loved it. It was one of my favorite games as a kid, and it went well with Aladdin marathons.

Magic Carpet was kinda cool, but I have the feeling I'd get the "I actually liked that???" feeling if I play it again.

Like I did when I replayed DK. DK2 still holds up fairly well though.

Holy shit. I hope my PS3 has the Pentium chip. I don't think I can run this on my 486DX.

OH MAN OH MAN OH MAN. I hope there's MP online support for Magic Carpet. I had a dream a while back that Bullfrog made a Magic Carpet/Lair mash up. In my dream it played like Magic Carpet 2, but from dragon back. If you got bested in an air battle you could land and then fight from on foot. It was badass. In my dream. It did not suck. If that ever got made, I would pee a little and then proceed to play the fuck out of that shit.

Man I loved Magic Carpet. I hope it gets resolution update. I tried it out on DOSbox awhile back and it was a little painful to look at.

MAGIC CARPET RULES!!!!

I kid you not ... I have a fully-functional 350 MHz PC running IBM PC DOS 7 and Windows for Workgroups no less than 10 feet away from me, specifically so that I can play "Magic Carpet", since I could never get it to work properly in DOSBox.

This is fucking awesome news!

Hey, wait ... "Magic Carpet" also had a red/blue 3D anaglyph mode and a "Magic Eye" 3D mode that actually were fun to toy with. Are these going to be included as well?

Dungeon Keeper was the last PC game I can honestly say i got addicted to. I'd love a PSN release, as Overlord just isn't scratching the itch.

from wiki
"In a 2006 interview at the Leipzig Games Convention for Gamespot, Peter Molyneux said that he would like to revisit some of his old efforts, but adds that it is very unlikely that will happen. But Molyneux makes one possible exception: "Aside from the licensing complications, some sort of next-gen online version of Syndicate would certainly be popular with gamers."[3]

There are rumours,[4] as of October 18, 2008, that Starbreeze will be resurrecting one of EA's "classic franchises" - Syndicate. This rumor is further confirmed, as of March 31, 2009, by GamesIndustry.biz.[5]"

Just so people know, Magic Carpet is actually a flight sim/RTS.

I started playing the PS1 version with a friend to make fun of it but we started to like it... a LOT. We ended up playing it for 15 hours straight a couple of weeks ago. In hindsight that was not a good idea since it only got us another THIRD OF THE WAY THROUGH THE GAME. The game is so good I may do it again though. We at least have to see the ending!

QFT. I had a bear of a time running Magic Carpet on my 486DX 33. I did actually manage to get it running though. Enough to ogle the real-time water waves. Oooooooh.
