MAG is getting a huge update next month photo

The MAG blog has updated with information on the largest update yet for the PlayStation 3-exclusive shooter. After gathering data and feedback from their new beta program (which has players testing potential content for the retail game), they're getting ready to roll out a ton of content along with previously-announced support for PlayStation Move.

Many of the features already known to be in the beta program are being rolled out to the masses, such as a revision of the skill tree, a "Clan Deploy" feature allowing up to 128 players to be queued into a single game by clan leaders and a new in-game economy. Zipper will also be increasing the game's level cap to 70 and "MAG News" page which launches at login with the game's latest info.

Something the beta offered which hasn't yet been announced as part of the update is the ability to have multiple character slots, allowing players to experience all three of the game's rival factions. Personally, I hope that's a step they never introduce into the mainstream as part of what charmed me about the game was the idea of having one character and putting your lot in with a group, win or lose.

I had two issues with the lack of character slots. First was that I have some friends playing as different factions, which meant I either restart to play with them or we just have to chat over Skype while playing unrelated matches. And second is that a good number of trophies are based on faction allegiance... meaning you'd have to beat the game 3 times and delete all that content to play again.

Having multiple slots would be cool, but I do agree having it open at the start would kinda suck. maybe it should be something that is unlocked with leveling up.

There are multiple character slots now in-game. costs like 99p for each slot.

@Bigmoose

Lots of people apparently.

I wish I still had a PS3 so I could join them tbh, I played it at last year eurogamer found it pretty damn fun for a mw/battlefield clone with a few more players on it.

Few more? How bout 200+ more in some game modes. Mag is great, the hardcore still support the shit out of it, and it's surprisingly easy to level up thru the ranks when you follow your SL. It's amazing how much Zipper has supported this game without being greedy DLC wise. Reminds me of Criterion with Burnout Paradise.

Wish Killzone 2 had this kind of support. It has a hardcore community, but they stopped updating after 6 months. I'm always jealous of TF2, and now MAG

Agree entirely on the player slot thing - this game is all about faction loyalty and this will spoil it.

I've personally vetted 4 times now, almost 5, and stuck with SVER for 3 of those with the latest 2 being through Raven (so i can play with the Dtoid Clan) it's not difficult to blast through to level 60 and vet to a different faction, but me, i tend to pick one and stick to it, use it's logos and stuff for phone and PC wallpapers and generally be loyal to the faction I'm with. (Other than my SVER-Raven switch)

I'm a bit of a nerd like that.

I just picked up Move this morning (it's charging from my work PC right now!!) and cannot wait to have a play with it in the MAG beta later!!! Squeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Few players? - the whole 256 players I find in matches on a daily basis, and the other however many thousand players in the games i'm not in would like a word with you. MAG has a strong community, a long list of people in my friends list are people I've met playing MAG, it's the most social game i've played myself. It's impressive just how many of the players in any given game are not just noobs, when at least 50% of the players are 100+ hours types, it really shows how the people who actually "get" this game really fucking LOVE it.

MAG is, by a long long way, my number 1 game this generation.

Very rarely can I put nearly 400 hours into a game and still love every single minute.

I'm just glad all the new stuff is coming as an update to MAG and not as a new MAG2 or anything!

Yay!

damn i liked MAG but i felt like i was leveling up WAY to slow. no matter how many people i killed. no matter how many people i revived etc, i never seemed to get more than 100 exp per match. maybe i just suck, or need to play with the clan more. leveling in these types of game kills my ADD.

but it sucks because im such a low level i get my ass handed to me because my weapons and skill tree is lacking.

So this will break the game balance between controller and move users (I mean if move is really 1-to-1 then all the users on the controller is going to get pwned.) Good Job Sony to convince MAG users to pick up Move by breaking the game. On the other hand, the Move controller may have been gimped to balance the game.

haha i know right, who is playing this crap?

Not everyone has 360 and PS3 and some swore PS3 offers better FPS games than 360 or PC or 360 and PC combined.

Off topic: just spent my lunch hour with MOVE....

Wow.

Just wow.

So going to get stuck into the MAG beta with it later, but I really didn't want to put Sports Champs down to come back to work. I could watch a sword or table tennis bat (?) follow my movements perfectly for HOURS!

@fetusmilk, that's weird dude, are you sticking to your objectives? 2x XP while near an objective is for winners! 20xp for a full revive near an objective!

Also, first hour of every day is happy hour, so that's double XP too, hell if you let the game choose which gametype to put you in, you get another 100% bonus.

I can smash 3000xp in a domination game during happy hour! Kills on objective are like 5xp (+5xp frago bonus), x2 for happy hour, plus 100% for directives = kills can be 30xp a pop!

Who are you fighting for fetus? You should so come play with the Dtoid Raven clan!!!

As noted, the character slots are "live" now. They are rented for .99 cents per month (which is odd, but actually works. The trophies require achieving level 60 in each faction and this way you can rent a spare character slot for a month, get the trophy, then rent another character the next month and get that trophy... while keeping your main character in your starting clan and faction).

@SexualChocolate... I hope you do a blog on MAG and move support, I would be VERY interested in how well the Move controller works with shooter games!

MAG is a good solid game. The new beta changes aren't overly friendly to newcomers because of level caps on buying some stuff, but overall the changes are more good than bad and the ability to launch larger groups through clan deploy will be a welcome change. We can currently use a glitch to get up to 16 in a group, but this will make life much easier.

MAG is still my "go to" game and I play most nights with the Dtoid clan. 580 hours and counting and I'm still not bored with the game. It looks like faction neutral maps are also coming for Dom and Acquistion which will again add some interest for those of us getting a bit bored with defending our home maps!

@cortes121... yes. If you're Raven and a Dtoid member just send me a PSN note (Elsa) or you can also send one to SC, but his name on PSN is something different (foolishbean... but I think there's numbers in there somewhere). Just make sure you're not in a current clan when you send the note so that we can send you a clan invite. Clan invites are blocked if you're already in a clan.

I'm just updating my mag beta, will be hopping in with move shortly.

Elsa - will with just tell you while I'm playing, or do a blog, or just rant a bit on the forum thread or something.

Monkey - I'm finding sports champions and the heavy rain demo are worth buying move for! Sports champs is way better than I expected. Ruse is good with it too although I'm gonna have to have a fiddle with the settings to get really comfortable.

Fingers crossed for mag. I hope I can get to grips with a new controller after all these many hours.

I hated my time in Raven, although that could have been due to being in a tiny clan that was never online & focusing on getting the 1000 kills for the shotgun and AK (just wanting to get all those things out of the way so can stick with a few basic loadouts).

Still, may vet back over to them after hitting 60 (or 70, depending on how long it takes) in SVER since the Dtoid clan seems nifty...

@Sc, I hope the lack of new comments coming from you is due to the fact it is awesome playing mag with the move? :D I am really curious about how it plays... I just played re5 with the move but that seemed a little of so I'm hoping mag is bringing you a better experience...
I still need to try the heavy rain demo but I am liking the tabletennis from the sports demo alot!
