MAG has an official release date photo

We all probably felt a little disappointed when the predictable news came around that MAG would be pushed back into 2010. The chance to get online in the biggest multiplayer battles ever moved even further away? Boo to that, I say. However, now we at least have a date to mark on our calendars as the Playstation.Blog has revealed that MAG will be landing on January 26, 2010. That's not that far after Christmas so we should all have some money left over.

If you're really impatient you can go over to PS.Blog and try to get some hands-on time with the game at PAX on Friday, which would probably be one of those great stories you can tell everyone when you're drinking with Mr. Destructoid later that night. PS.Blog is also going to be offering up a few special events to their readers so keeping tuned in would be a good idea if you think that Jan. 26 is just too far away.

This is the first I've heard this information, so it's fresh news to me. If you're going to be a dick about when something was posted, please go back to Digg.

So, what's the over/under on how many weeks after launch it will be before anyone can connect to a game? ps3 titles have problems at launch, can't imagine what it's going to be like with this beast.

That game looks awefull...

I'm not sure if you'r just saying the brown thing as a joke, or you hate it too. But it makes me feel sick...

This looks like ZERO originality.

@Nathaniel

Do you know what the gameplay mechanics are behind the game, and what it's all about?

OMG!not another jan.2010 release!
jan 2010 = month of the games which avoid modern warfare 2?

now it's like a story where a group of kids run away from a lion and ended up in the cave of foxes instead.

I am looking forward to see how this game turns out. I used to love the SOCOM games made by Zipper. It will be interesting to see if they can pull this off.

Out of curiosity, I loaded that pic into photoshop, desaturated it and then gave it a brown hue.
It looks EXACTLY the same.

Nonethelss, I am intrigued as to the concept, and will have to look into it. But Jan 2010? Way too oversaturated at the minute.

I don't own a PS3 but I do hope this game does well. The reason for this is because if it does well then more games like M.A.G., which focus on large battles, will be made... the end result ModWar3 with large scale battles! The sheer chaos will be awesome!!!

I still can't believe this is actually happening. I really hope it turns out great. I wrote it off as just another empty promise from Sony, but it looks for real.

Know what's sad. Gamers are so going to ruin that game by running around shooting everything instead of actually talking (saying "BOOM HEADSHOT" or "gay" does not count) and being organized and tactical.

This would be something I'd think about preordering... if I knew more about it that is.

@Pedrovay2003

No, which is why I said it LOOKS aweful, and LOOKS like zero originality.

It could be good... well, I doubt it could be good for me... I'm just sick of FPS, so unless it does something amazingly innovatave, it's a no-buy for me.

Innovation is nothing more than a marketing term. If you buy a game because of the "innovation," you've just proven yourself vulnerable to marketing terms and catch phrases. Play It Loud while Blast Processes, you ignorant cunt.

For this game to work in my eyes, it has to punish those not following orders or at least reenforce the behaviors that lead to teamwork. Their system seems to do just that, but online gamers tend to be a whole lot of ignorant dorks who don't pick up on subtle clues.

Simple example is Fat Princess. Everyone is complaining "headsets needed, headsets needed." When you see a group of three warriors heading out, you don't think they could use a healer? When a worker is carrying a bomb, you don't think he could use an escort? When you press Up on the DPad, you demand help. People who hear this can't figure out you need backup? Most of these games can be figured out WITHOUT the headset. Sure, could work better with one but that's a rule towards playing with a group of friends. And if you're doing that, wouldn't you all have headsets anyway?

The world isn't pretty colours like Halo kiddies. Specially not a war-torn near future planet Earth.

Plus a lot of the videos of this game show of some gorgeous environments and it's brilliant looking command and control ideas.

Mag is gonna be fucking awesome!

My only worry is the whole "server issues at launch" thing, but it'll be up and running soon enough and when it is, it'll be fucking awesome.
