Mafia II is coming and 2K Game's Czech studio is showing it off finally. Some lucky Europeans got to head over to the studio and get some time with the game and a lucky Norwegian newspaper got the first gameplay footage of which you can check out below. Evidently, the gameplay and story have been revamped and made better, giving the game a bit more action and excitement.

From what we see in the video I'm not so sure what is going to stand out about the game at the moment. It looks like another shooter taking place in a made up city. The original game was fun, but it never stood out to me as something special and I'm not sure if this one will either. Then again with the graphics engine being specifically designed for the game and what looks like plenty of in depth and realistic content being shoved into it this could be a real winner.

Not sure what to think of this. The graphics can look pretty at times, but horrid at others. And from what i've seen of the driving, it looks a lot like The Godfather II... and if it's anything similar, count me out.

This is like the time everybody copied the Grand Theft Auto formula to make a quick buck. Except now it has been going on for ten years.

Honestly, regenerating health? I can suspend enough disbelief that a war hero or a guy with supernatural powers can do that. But a mobster? That's too much for me.

Despite that whole thing, it looks alright, I honestly can't recall much from the first Mafia but maybe I'll be interested enough to look into it again depending on how this will do.

Maybe.

If it isn't regenerating health then it is magical health packs, y'know.

I think that what seems wrong from a graphical point of view is the animations when guys get shoot.
They need to fix some things and improve.

I'm still excited and could care less what anyone else thinks. I'm soooooooo ready for the 50's, so long as there's some Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra on the radio.

Well the engine seems to be more capable than Godfather 2's, I was impressed to see the glass brick wall falling apart.

I remember the first game. It was alright for a while but the driving was just so horribly, atrociously boring I gave up after a few hours. High speed chases at 40mph just don't get me excited

All I remember is is that I liked Mafia more than any other mobster game I've played to date. Perhaps indeed because it was pretty much a competent shooter set in the mobster times rather than a demeaning use of a great film's name to hock a barely passable GTA clone.

Looks allright to me but one thing the checke developers allways seem to have a big, big, big problem with: believable physics/ragdolls!
Thats a indication of how old this engine allready is imo! Operation Flashpoint, Mafia 1+2, Armed Assault 1+2 all good games but no physics in it. That was allways a point that annoyed me very much

I don't understand the big deal. I think it looks pretty good. As long as it's still freeroam not linear, I'd consider this.

Regenerating healht? Ugh, whatever happened to collecting medkits? Or eating meats, vegetables, and fruits?

They could have at least have a hybrid regenerative health bar like in Riddick.

Actually, its not in New York. It's a made up city that looks like New York and mobsters still talk with New York accents.

A few things.

Comparing this to GTA is moronic. Mafia was mission based and nothing more; there was no open sandbox gameplay, nothing to do other than missions with the exception of a free roam mode outside the actual game.

This also didn't copy GTA; it didn't have time to. It came out a year after GTA3 released on the PS2, and three months after it came out for the PC.

Personally I hope they keep the original's realistic tone. Regenerating health is fine, long as it's slow; perhaps they can still have health packs to speed things up. That's all fine as long as damage is realistic like the first. You get shot in the head, you're dead; you take a shotgun shell to the chest point blank, you're dead. The realism is what made the first game very interesting to play, along with an outstanding story.
