Can you guys actually explain why you hate 3D gaming so much or is it just that you've never seen it before and you're scared? You guys are making complete clowns of yourselves by jumping on the "it's cool to hate things that are awesome" bandwagon. And you're doing yourselves no further favors by pretending that this sort of thing has been tried before and failed. I'm not a fan of active shutter glasses (which are only being pushed because they work with high refresh televisions that TV manufacturers were making anyway, as opposed to polarized lenses that wouldn't) but there has never been a widely available consumer solution for true color 3D. This isn't like the old blue-and-reds and to even compare it is fucking retarded.
3d is a pointless gimmick, its being used to "gloss up" shitty films and I fear that it is going to do the same with games.

It has nothing to do with being cool or trendy, it has everything to do with a gimmick that really doesn't add anything new to the medium. Apart from headaches and eye strain. I would rather see the time and effort used to make a game 3d be better spent on making better games. You are just easily distracted by studios waving shiny thing is your face.

Active shutter / stereoscopic 3D DOESN'T GIVE ME HEADACHES or EYESTRAIN.
I fucking love it! Really adds to my veiwing experience, and everything I've seen using the tech is fantastic, impressive and generally awesome. Only downside is the lack of HD AND 3D at cinemas, it's fun watching 3D at the cinema, but I prefer to watch it at home in 1080p. Avatard for example, was a stunning experience in 3D and muddy-blurry-cinema-vision, but was a truely outstanding visual experience, more so than the 3D verison in full HD on blu-ray at home.
If your eyes aren't quite perfect or if you've got some kind of fragile brain, don't fucking use it, but please don't shit on it for the rest of us who have A FULLY FUNCTIONAL BODY and can handle 3D tech.
It IS SUPER COOL to shit on 3D, just like it was super cool to shit on Blu-ray, or even HD, just because you can't afford it and need to shit on it to make yourself feel better for missing out. Hell it was super cool to shit on MP3, and DVD and VHS. People fear new tech that they can't afford. It's a shit fact of life.
These same people though, will probably buy the latest Ithing that apple sell them, despite it being old tech in a shiney box. The world makes me want to rape puppies sometimes.

@Zantetsuken I am not easily distracted by shiny things waving in front of my eyes. I do however like the 3D effect when it's done right and if a game can be made much more realistic in a way and make me feel like im in it, then yeah (!), but Mafia 2 is hardly that game or the experience im looking for. Gran Turismo 5 however! And Killzone 3.

I'm with HPV im sorry but the push for 3d these days cannot be compared with previous attempts. With the current push for it and the tech available i dont see a reason why it wont succeed.
I love 3D and i think it will be a great way of improving games and those that dont want it turn the option off... I don't see the problem with the choice being there really.

@hpv: Yes. I've seen many games in 3D. I still don't see the point. Does it give me a headache or eyestrain? Rarely, though it has happened.
The thing you have to understand is that, for me, the visual aspect of a game is below a secondary concern. So, innovations in making games look "cool" are always going to fall flat with me. Find a way to make that 3D important to the actual playing of the game and we'll talk. I'm talking mechanic over feature here.

I might be joining a bandwagon, but not for the "Durrr its 3d! Its useless and a gimmick!" average reason most 3D haters seem to have(as far as I'm aware)
For every hour that's spent on making the game look good in 3D, that's a hour that could have been used fixing bugs, refining gameplay mechanics, etc. I HATE rarely used optional features taking up development time. That's my number one pet peeve concerning gaming.
So basically I hate 3D not because its new, but because frankly it's a waste of development time compared to what the developer can be doing.
