Mafia II 'Jimmy's Vendetta' coming September 7 photo

Despite UNICO's outrage, 2K Games launched Mafia II last week without a hitch. A week later, it's announcing the release date for the first bit of downloadable content, "Jimmy's Vendetta." Out on September 7, the pack will cost players $9.99 for PlayStation 3 and PC, and 800 MS Points for Xbox 360.

"Jimmy's Vendetta" puts players in the shoes of a mafioso clean up guy, in a more arcade style experience featuring a slew of new missions like assassinations and car chases. The DLC adds a more arcade-style dimension to Mafia II, adding a scoring system including combos and multipliers, as well as a leaderboard to see who's doing the best job as old baldy.

This content doesn't sound too different than "Jimmy's Betrayal," the PlayStation 3 exclusive that came free with new copies of the game. It's the reason I scored the PS3 game a bit higher in my review; I actually found the high-intensity arcade-like Jimmy stuff more interesting than the core game.

Anyone thinking about picking this up?

Actually looking forward to this. I'll be buying it from Steam when it comes out, probably.

Wait, paid content? Seriously? They didn't have the time to finish it, left almost all unfinished the code in the game and then decided to SELL it? I was expecting it to be free. Well, if not free then not 10 fucking bucks... This is absolutely ridiculous. I absolutely loved the game and not interested in the freeride as i wasn't in the original game. But releasing something that is supposed to be in the game for 10 buck a week after the game release is just fucking pathetic

$10 for an Arcade mode is crap. At least Sony knew to score an exclusive mode before hand.

"Wait, paid content? Seriously?" - This is the games industry in 2010.

I'm really enjoying this game thus far. takes me back to when games were actually kind of gripping and fun but also a bit stupid.

Seeing as how I'm almost done with my second playthrough, I think this will be just the ticket to freshen things up a bit.

Hmm, now I don't know whether or not to send it back to Gamefly. Although, more arcade-like doesn't sound like it plays to the strengths of the game, i.e. story and atmosphere. Such a great game, if you realize that the "open world" is there to serve the atmosphere and not be a typical over the top sandbox-style experience. I wish there were more games like it. So good.

Great game, way too short and no replaybility. 10 bucks for additional content shortly after the release? Fuck you.

I'm always amazed in the stupidity of game developers/publishers which decides shit like that. I bet the sales for Mafia2 would be a looot better if the content that they want to release as DLC would be in the original game.

I'm not buying DLC in cases like that and I hope that they will soon realize that they are hurting their sales more than actually improving it. Not every game is a MW2 where you can get away with it.

I wonder if / how they'll tie Jimmy's story in with Vito's. The length seems fair enough. One of the other sites I looked at says it "more than 30 quests", and the original game has fifteen chapters with a couple of "quests" apiece, so...um...yeah.

That's...interesting.

Well, at least they put scoring in. The leaderboards never really matter, but it's always nice to see little numbers pop up next to things and people as they're being destroyed.
