The Internet is abuzz with talk about upcoming Wii game MadWorld, the ultra violent action title from Platinum Games (the new company composed of key members from Okami-creator Clover Studio). And if the above trailer is any indication, the game looks to be violent ... really violent.

Honestly, I am still in shock that this is a Wii game. Not that I’m complaining (I <3 my Wii). It’s just that, if someone told me months ago that the Wii would be home to the story of a contestant on a ridiculously violent television show who must kill people and bathe the surrounding world with gushing red blood to impress and entertain the audience watching all of the carnage at home, I would have laughed in his/her face.

Seriously, though, that’s the (amazing) premise: Presented in beautiful black & white, players are required to “paint” the minimalist world with the bright red blood emitted from enemies. Like a twisted take on Okami, MadWorld seems to focus heavily on incorporating the game’s visuals into the actual gameplay.

After viewing the trailer, check out some gorgeous images in the below gallery and let us know what you think. Are you excited? Surprised? Like me, does the trailer give you the sudden urge to watch Hellboy and Sin City?

It looks pretty exciting, I agree that I would like to know a little more about the plot before getting my hopes up.

While violence alone is not going to sell me, the art style is absolutely beautiful. This is an example of a developer who knows how to make a game beautiful on the Wii with simple art direction, instead of wasting time on realistic polygon count.

I totally dig the black and white.

LOVE IT. Platinum has really got me excited for their new titles, almost as excited as I was for the Grasshopper announcements last year. Japan rulez!

And being a reader of comics and manga, I have absolutely no problem with the black and white. It's just something you have to get used to and not whine about because it's different.

I hope there are unlockable options to change the colors to whatever you want. That'd be freaking awesome.

Delectable! Now we need Gary Jules playing the theme song.

I can't believe Nintendo is allowing this level of violence on their system. I mean, they pretty much banned a DS game about Hitler, but they'll allow a game where you can harm someone with absolutely anything? Does the Nintendo Seal of Quality mean anything anymore? Doesn't mske sense. BUT STILL AWESOME!!!

It's like Gears of War, Killer 7, and No More Heroes combined! So, is this game just a fighting game where you literally paint the town with the blood of your enemies, or something more? I guess we'll find out soon enough! Nice job, some people behind Okami!

Yeah this was an amazing premise in 1993 when I was playing it on my Super Nintendo. and It was called Smash TV.

THIS is gaming.

It inspires the same "Dude, you gotta check this shit out!" feeling that God Hand had. It's like Frank Miller at his goofiest. Hell, ought to call it "Sin City 3000."

Wow, I *love* the art style. I wish more games would take a stylistic approach like this, rather than jumping head first into the uncanny valley.

I'm withholding my opinion for now. As it is at the moment, it could be awesome or it could plain suck.

After thinking about it last night, I began to wonder how much this game is a result of all the pent up anger the Clover employees must have over the commercial failure of God Hand and Okami, and the eventual closing of the studio.

If I made two incredible games that flopped, then I got fired, I'd probably want to make a game about sticking street signs through another guy's head as well.

Holmes: I agree, and I'll take it a step further. This is the intentional, inside joke "sell out song".

I've been excited about this game since I first heard of it a few days ago, as you can see on my blog. Anyway I really hope that this achieves some sort of success. The premise is a bit shallow for me, to be honest. I was hoping for more, but if the presentation is done right then it will become a must buy. No more Heroes had a shallow premise too but that game is awesome! Could you imagine multiplayer? I wonder if they'll venture online

@Holmes-I think you're on to something there. The absurdity of it all kind of screams "Okay you fuckers, this is what you want? Then we're gonna give it to ya ten fold!". How much do you want to bet there's a likeness of Seth Killian somewhere in this game?

Wow, those guys could really turn the Wii into a 'serious' games console, the sort of game design that sold me a Wii and No More Heroes in the first place, style over realism with (hopefully) original gameplay (though I would be cool with it playing like a gory version of God Hand)

They might also save Sega in my eyes into the bargin. With Platinum's titles and Conduit on the way, I am really glad that I have a Wii, as I have since launch.

Just got linked to Official Nintendo Magizine's [spits] short interview with the MadWorld devs.

People, it's basically a game version of The Running Man! It's like the unholy progeny of Stephen King and Frank Millar! Of Marv and Arnie!
