The Internet is abuzz with talk about upcoming Wii game MadWorld, the ultra violent action title from Platinum Games (the new company composed of key members from Okami-creator Clover Studio). And if the above trailer is any indication, the game looks to be violent ... really violent.
Honestly, I am still in shock that this is a Wii game. Not that I’m complaining (I <3 my Wii). It’s just that, if someone told me months ago that the Wii would be home to the story of a contestant on a ridiculously violent television show who must kill people and bathe the surrounding world with gushing red blood to impress and entertain the audience watching all of the carnage at home, I would have laughed in his/her face.
Seriously, though, that’s the (amazing) premise: Presented in beautiful black & white, players are required to “paint” the minimalist world with the bright red blood emitted from enemies. Like a twisted take on Okami, MadWorld seems to focus heavily on incorporating the game’s visuals into the actual gameplay.
After viewing the trailer, check out some gorgeous images in the below gallery and let us know what you think. Are you excited? Surprised? Like me, does the trailer give you the sudden urge to watch Hellboy and SinCity?

Oop, I meant the original, pre-release No More Heroes trailer which looked way better than the finished game. I'm still disappointed with that, and have hence been distrustful of anything pre-release videos or pics of Wii titles.
But this video and these pics of Mad World are from an actual, playable build of the game. It's supposed to drop Q1 2009.
Even if the gameplay isn't great (and with ex-Clover designers behind the game, that's highly unlikely), I'll buy Mad World just for the graphics. I've been waiting for the next step in the evolution of cel-shading for years. This game may be it.
Wow, they're taking a huge risk here. Not only is it a super violent game on a "family friendly" system, but they're also employing a highly styled graphical look. I hope it turns out well, the industry needs more original content like this.
Quite an interesting premise for the game. Gore alone never sells me on anything, so a good premise is a must, here. Looks really promising. Hopefully this will fly under the radar, like how No More Heroes somehow managed to.
Ok, I know I'm kind of going against the grain here, but why exactly is everyone drooling over this? I love the graphical style, but where is the gameplay? Right now it looks like a bunch of MK fatalities strung together in black and white. Any game from the former Clover guys deserves a lot of hype, but I'm going to withold judgement until someone shows me that this is something other than a slightly more humourous and stylized Manhunt.
Just went back and watched that trailer. Wow, I forgot all about that! Even though it looked better than the game did, the voice acting was horrible! Glad they cleaned that up.
I don't want to cream my pants *just* yet, but this looks very promising for the wii. I'm really digging the black and white with red all over motif, and Hopefully the gameplay is better than Manhunt 2 for the wii was. Although I already know the press like faux noise is going to have a field day with this one "The nintendo wii is a fun family system, but it also lets your children MURDER. story at 10."
At any rate, DO WANT, but finely tuning my BS detector.
Wedge: They said they may not even release it in Japan for that very reason. This is a game strictly for the Western Audience. If the Japanese can get it, they will. If not? Too bad for them.
meh, it kinda looks like yet another "omg teh art desyn is magnificent" games that play like ass. but everyone shot loads over killer 7 and nmh so i guess im the odd man out here.
The final version of NMH looks better than the version shown in that trailer, Holmes. I can't really explain what I like about the graphics, aside from the hint of realism that's behind the cel-shaded graphics.
@ Kevinski-You really think so? Well, to each there own.
For the record, I really liked NMH's final look, but the finished product lacked the polygon count, the amount of colors on screen, and the frame rate of that first trailer.
@ Konami code- Did you look at the pics, or just the video? The pics say it all to me. The comedy will be there, as well as the character design, as well as what looks like a pretty large environment to hang out in.
I just took off my pants to make room for the MASSIVE BONER I have for this game!
When watching a game's trailer makes me squeemish, yeah, there's something awesome in there.
Also, this is the same studio that made Okami and Viewtiful Joe. if there is one company in the world that can do cel shading and make it look awesome, and have butter-smooth gameplay, it's Neo-Clover.
This game is already on my 'to buy' list. It should be on everybody eles's, too.

And unlike the No More Heroes trailer, this is all actual gameplay footage.
AWESOME!
First day purchase confirmed here
Sounds terribly familiar...
What a great idea!
In fact, this makes me think of the Dark Travis power-up from NMH, except full playable and with more variety in killings.
It looks amazing though.
First day buy. Hell yes.

I have not seen anything about this game before that video and all I can say is DAMN!
I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SAY THAT.
do want!!!!!
I must have this game, and we must all support it. God knows the poor people who used to work at Clover have been fucked over in the past.
I'll wait for the review, but it looks nice so far.
DO FUCKING WANT!
...seriously, i do. (F-bombs due to drinking very recently)
This definitely has the same look/feel of Killer 7. I can dig it.
Always nice to see something different, lets hope its good.
Can they even do that in Japan (after NMH was censored)?

Check out Kotaku's eyes-on report of the game, and see if you're not excited after that.
