Sega of America sent us this “Happy Holidays” trailer for Platinum Games’ hyperviolent upcoming action game MadWorld, and they made sure to let us know that it was censored for “graphic content.” That alone was enough to annoy me, but then they rubbed salt in the wound by noting that Sega Europe would be sending out an uncensored version. But we’re only allowed to post the censored version. Fiddlesticks.
Remember how Europe got the uncensored version of The Joker’s Fatality in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe? I could understand the reasoning behind that to a point, since the “teen” rating over there starts at age 15 or 16. But this, I don’t understand -- it’s not like they’re trying to redact content to make a particular rating or anything. And I don’t remember the prior trailer being censored.
Either way, the video is still pretty badass, even though the bloody bits have been plastered over with a gaudy yellow “CENSORED” banner. The game’s protagonist, Jack -- “just Jack” -- is apparently getting his kill on for a chance at a TV show’s $100 million bounty, and really, isn’t that all the story anyone needs?
Be sure to check out the game’s official Web site for all kinds of goodies and information (including tidbits on the multiplayer “Blood Bath Challenges”).
Who else is as surprised as I am to be this excited about a Wii game? Spring 2009 can’t get here fast enough. Oh, by the way, Sega also included a MadWorld-ized version of the classic Christmas poem “The Night Before Christmas” -- you can check it out after the jump.
’Twas a night before DeathWatch, when all through downtown
Not a person was stirring, since being stomped to the ground.
The bodies were hung on the rose bushes with care,
In hopes that more enemies would soon appear.
Jack was nestled all snug in his bed,
While visions of beating hearts danced in his head;
Jack with a sign post, the Bull in a tire wrap,
Impaled and put down for a long winter’s nap.
When out at the train station there arose such a splatter,
Everyone ran to see what was the matter.
Towards the commotion, they flew like a flash,
A game show was announced, winners paid cash.
The moon in the breast of the newly-fallen blood-stained snow,
Gave the luster of mid-day to environmental weapons below.
When, what to my wondering dark eyes should sit
But a chainsaw, a spiked bat and daggers! OH S#!%
Actually, I would say from that trailer that he's infiltrated the place and either is a law enforcement agent of some sort, or looking to take some sort of revenge out on the top guy. Either way he's trying to get to and kill the people in charge, while playing the game along the way.
That's based entirely on a few seconds of conversation he has with some chick.
Man, it feels like that guy voice-acts in every game I've been playing these days!
I'd much rather see an artistic black and white with the only color being the red blood, than shit brown and grey.
Hell, even if the game didn't interest me I'd still buy it just to support for team who brought us Okami.
This game is definitely climbing up to AAA status fast, but I just hope Sega does more to capitalize on that. Like start a pre-order bonus, or something because this game could be a million seller for them, if they promote it right. They should of saved this trailer, and put it on the VGA's last night. It would of got way more mainstream exposure for the game.
@ -PL- idk if your joking but if not its clearly a stylized feel to focus on the color of blood.
story seems to just be this guy (prob some ex criminal or something) is the TV star of a televised murder fest and i love it
A great looking 3rd party game is announced for it, and now people want it on their console choice instead.
Pff.
Dumbass, lv99ron is saying that it could of been cross platform, nothing about it really screams gimmicky wii controls.
I'm glad that I wasn't the only one to notice that as well.
@Chronoswing:
The point is not whether it should or should not have been multi-platform. But any game like this is either criticized because it dare be made to include the Wii in a multi-platform release (because the 360 and PS3 are just so-o-o-o-o-o superior) or else it gets criticized because it's Wii-exclusive (because the 360 and PS3 are just so-o-o-o-o-o superior).
I have PS3 and I'll have a 360 within a month, but the no-win situation that a lot of Dtoiders put on the Wii gets annoying.
Agreed. Now it's more like, "Wait ... so, what are they hiding? I have to find out now!" Sneaky bastards. :)
Are you all so embarrassed to enjoy games that you have to attack the Wii in the most subtle ways regardless of it actually doing what you've been asking it to do for so long.
The Wii is not at fault, Nintendo is not at fault, its developers that are nothing putting the games on it that are at fault. Looking at this and House of the Dead, its not Nintendo that is holding developers from putting out bloody death games, its the developers themselves that refuse to put the effort into the system and it and the customers like yourselves that refuse to buy them. So stop bashing the Wii for not having the games and start going after the developers that waste millions of dollars on games for the graphics then half of the time end up being crap anyway.
Do you all think you are "cool" or whatever you kids call yourselves these days because you don't like the Wii unless it shows you some blood?
If it wasnt for some of the insightful and talented posters on this site that want people to play video games in general because they are enjoyable, regardless of the system, I would never visit this site.
Sorry freedom, you SUCK!
But as far as I'm concerned, as things currently stand, that's what the console is mostly about -- shovelware and mediocre games. You know what sells? Mario Kart, Carnival Games, Wii Fit, and Wii Play (though, to be fair, Wii Play's sales are artificially inflated because it comes with a Wiimote). Games that people do put effort into don't sell -- EA's Boom Blox and Capcom's Zack & Wiki are fine examples of that trend. I love both of those games, but they simply didn't sell all that many copies (I'm astonished that EA [reportedly] greenlit a sequel to Boom Blox). And, for the record, neither of those two games have any blood, so my dislike of the Wii has nothing to do with that, either.
Again, there aren't very many games on the Wii that I'm personally excited about. Sue me. But before you get all up in arms, make sure to know the people at whom you're taking potshots.
Oh, and to get my opinion out of my system, Three bodies are to be blamed for the Wii's lack of traditional games: 1) Nintendo for inconsistent choices in marketing (like touting Animal Crossing: City Folk as the game for the hardcore crowd, then airing commericals for the game featuring nothing but casual gameplay with bad acting.),
2) The third-party publishers who choose to release nothing but lackluster efforts and uninspired gameplay,
3, and most of all) The consumers who choose to stop giving the Wii a chance or buy crappy games. I know we are in a community that keeps itself aware of the games that are produced, so there is no reason why the truly great games that are released for the Wii, (even the ones that have poor marketing like Okami and Zack and Wiki) won't sell well when they are actually released. I know that for the time casual games sell a ton of cash, but the traditional games should still sell decently enough for them to catch the other developers attention.
