If I said I that I believed John Madden still had the capacity to talk about the NFL in any reasonable capacity, I would be lying. I would also be framed as a liar if I talked about how John Madden has improved his game over the last three years. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. You can watch the video above and listen to the stuttering NBC announcer talk about his deep involvement with the game his name is stamped on. Towards the end of the video, Madden addresses what it takes to keep making great titles:

We keep getting better every year. That the game, you know, ’09 will be better than ’08 that was better than ’07 and we just keep improving because I’ve always been one to say ‘you can’t stay the same.’

Hopefully this year someone at Tiburon got this memo. I have to say, though, that I was surprised after booting up the Madden 09 demo to find the holographic John Madden less disturbing and perhaps even excused in the context he was utilized. Also, the game seemed to have some excellent improvements for once. I guess we’ll have to wait and see for sure when Madden 09 releases this Tuesday.

Madden's new gimmick for the year: TRON holographic simulator, AI tailored to your play of game and even shinier helmets.

Hooray!!

I really want this game to be good, but I'm not holding my breath.

It's Madden. Expect no less than half a dozen glitches right out of the box.

I hate Madden, and I hate how people support this crap by buying the same thing year after year.

"Oh my... Madden lost more hair on this one, and they change the numbers to... OH... NINE.... whatever that means".

And Madden STILL probably suggests you Hail Mary when you're 3rd and inches... Same shit every year.

Bought '08 on sale while back, and still happy with that one. Even if the demo was half decent.
