Madden NFL 10 looks a lot better than Madden NFL 09 photo

In case you haven’t kept up, EA Tiburon has made numerous visual improvements to the Madden series with Madden NFL 10. They’re justifiably proud, so they’ve put together a bunch of comparison shots showing off the myriad differences between the two games.

Above, you can see two separate comparisons (Madden 10 is on the left, and Madden 09 is on the right). The top set was taken at dusk during a Cardinals-Steelers game at Heinz Field, and the set below it provides images of the playcall screens from the two games. In the first group, notice the obvious upgrades to the game’s lighting engine. And take a look at the revamped play select screen, which was changed to show the on-field action.

Obviously, these images are much better viewed at full size; you can check out nine HD-res comparisons on the Madden 10 Web site, as well as one more that was tweeted by Michael Young, the game’s art director. And you’ll be able to see the differences for yourself when Madden NFL 10 launches next Friday, August 14th.

To be completely serious, the game would look horrible if it looked like BlazBlue.

To be completely serious, I'd buy this game day one if it looked like BlazBlue.

looks like they figured out how to blur the shit out of the background so you can't tell the crowd looks horrible anymore.

I'm not a Madden guy. Haven't owned a Madden game since Madden 94 on the Genesis. But I have to agree that they did a nice job updating the graphics. The out of focus background or narrow depth of field is a smart choice as it looks more in line with actual sports photography.

not really a fan of the new play calling screen. they change it every year and every year it gets tougher to find the plays you want.

The last Madden game I bought was 07. I expected to spend a lot of time with it but didn't more than 2 hours or so. I got it because I have a friend who is a diehard fan of the series so we could play online. I just find it incredibly boring for some reason. Downloaded the demo for Madden 10... still feel the same way. Also, the play calling is just stupid. I mean, the order for picking plays? "X,A...Y?!?!?" doesn't make sense and I had a few delay of games trying to fumble through the system in the demo trying to find what I wanted. I only like playing this on the same screen as a friend anyways so I'll just let them shell out the money for it.

So they changed the background on the play selection screen and turned down the fog filters.

No seriously. All you suckers buying this in the next few weeks, you all stand up. You deserve the recognition...

So people know not to breed with you for buying the same freaking thing every year since 1994.

Ha ha, smart use of depth of field. Also, contrast.
