Madcap! Mayhem! Robots! Robocalypse! photo

I have a soft spot for original IPs and adorable robots, so Vogster Entertainment's Nintendo DS title, Robocalypse, has certainly caught my attention. The real-time strategy title is being designed exclusively for the Nintendo DS, and has some heavy talent behind its narrative -- SpongeBob Squarepants writer/director Jay Lender is on board (along with Micah Wright ... dude wrote the Sopranos game) to bring these zany robots some personality.

Vogster are also calling the title a "technological breakthrough," which features "50 independently AI-driven units with advanced distributed path-finding, dynamic music, and stunning, 3D particle effects." I guess all of that crap means the game is going to be fun, right?

"Our focus," says the game's director Michael Mendheim, "is on providing a simple pick up and play experience for the Nintendo DS that stays true to the genre, but incorporates comedic elements and smart gameplay to give it a distinct feel and style."

More information on the title (including screens and some of the game's key features) can be found over at the official Robocalpyse Web site. There, you'll find info on the game's "epic storymode" and "madcap weapons." Can you handle the robot mayhem?

IRREVERENT ROBOTS BRING MADCAP MAYHEM TO THE NINTENDO DS™ AS VOGSTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES ‘ROBOCALYPSE’

SADDLE RIVER, N.J., January 22, 2008 – Vogster Entertainment, a fast growing video game developer and producer, today announced its first new project, Robocalypse, an innovative new real-time strategy game developed specifically for the Nintendo DS™.  Set in a world of wise-cracking, battling robots, Robocalypse offers madcap weaponry and uproarious destruction, all embedded in a deep strategy war game.

A technological breakthrough for the Nintendo DS, Robocalypse features over 50 independently AI-driven units with advanced distributed path-finding, dynamic music and stunning, 3D particle effects.  Backing these advancements is a hilarious storyline penned by Jay Lender, a writer and director for the acclaimed cartoon series SpongeBob Squarepants™, and Micah Wright, known for his writing contributions across multiple mediums.

“Given its truly comedic nature and its technological precedents, Robocalypse sets a new standard for Nintendo DS games,” said Michael Mendheim, Game Director, Vogster.  “With Robocalypse, our focus is on providing a simple pick up and play experience for the Nintendo DS that stays true to the genre, but incorporates comedic elements and smart gameplay to give it a distinct feel and style.”

In Robocalypse, players will control an oil-swilling, brawling, robotic dirty dozen, as they compete in over 15 unique missions, with hidden objectives, a robust reward system and an intense multiplayer experience.  Robocalypse will have virtual generals rolling on the battlefield.

Robocalypse for the Nintendo DS is currently scheduled for release in Q2 2008.

Mr. Destructoid, Base Wars, Bender Rodriguez... It's hard to lose with robots.

I'm just hoping the AI is as good as it's cracked up to be. If there's anything that ruins a nice RTS, it's bad AI.

I'm always excited to hear about new real time strategy games, despite the fact that historically, I suck at them. I keep hoping that maybe the ones built for consoles or handhelds will treat me better. We shall see.

Seems like a good title, also anytime they say, "technological breakthrough," you can be sure one of two things are true:

1. they are making a really good game thats got the goods
-OR-
2. they are totally full of shit and they think siting the technical aspects of the game can mask the fact that it sucks and is no fun to play.

Madcap! Robots! Technological breakthrough!

Can't wait to see how the stylus works out on this one. I don't know how comfortable I'll feel spearing my worker units in the arse with a plastic rod.

Particle effects! Don King!

Nice clean lookin sprites. I normally hate RTS, but I fucking LOVE Lost Magic to death, and I need to try Revenant Wings. So I might find this enjoyable. Y'know... if I haven't gotten over the new Advance Wars by then.

I wonder what an RTS with a stylus would be like. This could get very interesting.

Also, robots!
