What is this I don't even ...
Madballs. Yes, we are talking about those obscure rubber balls with faces from the eighties. You remember, right? They had one guy that was a living baseball, a mummy, a swamp monster. They were ridiculous and failed to have the lasting appeal of Transformers and pretty much disappeared when the fad was over, yet here they are, resurrected for no good reason and coming to XBLA this Summer.
Why someone thought that bringing back Madballs was a good idea, I do not know, but it's a real fact that we now have to deal with. Madballs in Babo Invasion is a "casual hardcore" shooter which features an apparently new line of toys. I didn't realize they'd brought the things back properly, but it just goes to show that anything will be recycled in a desperate attempt for easy money.
So there you have it, Madballs, a toy line that about five you remember, is back. Hooray?
OTTAWA, CANADA- May 28, 2009 Playbrains, an independent game development studio specializing in the digital download arena, are proud to announce that their debut console title, Madballs in Babo Invasion, will be releasing on Xbox LIVE(R) Arcade in Summer of 2009.
A gameplay rich, feature laden 'casually hardcore' action shooter, Madballs in Babo: Invasion (MiBI) is that rarest of gaming commodities; a genuinely unique title. Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
How do they hold guns? If the guns are attached to the balls, how do they roll around and manage to aim properly? Balls using guns is absurd!
A game, however? Meh.
or M.A.S.K.
or Dino Riders.
oh for fucks sake. This could have worked awesomely as a koropina style game with an online battle element or something. But fucking GUNS!?
I had like 5 of those! Omfg Jim game of the year rose tinted googles ftw!

Now what were you saying?
Now if we can get Air Raiders to make a comeback....
We're all anticipating this great next step in Babo History and it's looking absolutely superb and surely fun
Anyway, since the fact it includes Madballs seems to be a problem for most people for some reason, this game first started out as just "Babo: Invasion", sequel of the free PC game "BaboViolent 2", as Dosenbier said. (Which is a free, simple yet fun and addictive online top-view shooter, btw) Then Playbrains showed it to Microsoft and Microsoft suggested they team up with the recently re-released Madballs since they're balls and would fit well with the idea I guess, which they did. So the game is not ABOUT Madballs. They're just "in" it (Only 2 of them out of 12 characters, for your information...), hence the "Madballs in" Babo: Invasion. I never loved the idea of having those in the game myself, but I think it's sad if people can't even look beyond that before saying bad things about it.
So now that this is hopefully cleared up, I must say I'm really looking forward to this game (as if it isn't obvious now). I enjoyed playing BV2 for a while and I think this game is gonna be great since it's basically BV2 on steroids. I'm expecting to play it for many, many hours. It's gonna have many modes and some very original gameplay mechanics while keeping it simple. You should all go watch some videos of it and check out the official site before saying anything. I hope people don't just assume it's crap because they think it was meant to get some easy cash to the Madballs guys, because they'd be missing on one really promising game. The game I'm looking forward to the most at the moment, actually. Can't wait for it to get released on Steam.
