Kotaku reminds us that back in 1988,
Bayou Billy was released into the wild by Konami on this very day. This game had everything - side scrolling beat em up action, car chases, Operation Wolf style shooting, cajun music, and two really big boobs. As the story goes, Konami of America had the packaging artwork to this creepy-looking, no-neck McConnaughey swamp chump since they were obviously milking the success of Crocodile Dundee without a license. So what did "Mad City" look like compared to ours box art?
I found a rare Famicom specimen on Ebay going for five dollars. Yup, that's the spitting image of Paul Hogan on steroids and a lean diet alright! They even have the knife right, but it looks like the game takes place in Venice. I like our swamp montage, but our hero is a loser. The more you knooooow.
