Walk down your nearest Best Buy's Wii section and try not to be attacked by useless pieces of plastic and random things you'll never need for your Wii. It's not possible, those things are vicious. The accessories market on the Wii is massive, and mostly useless. Hell, most of the accessories out there can't even be thought of as cool collector's items since so few of them are connected to Nintendo themselves in any way. Those looking for a little more panache (or at least recognizable videogame characters) in their Wii accessories will be happy to hear that Mad Catz has inked a deal with Nintendo to use popular Nintendo characters in their products.
Mario can finally be on that cheap, plastic tennis racket! Praise heaven! Actually, if Mad Catz makes anything as cool or unique as their Street Fighter IV FightPads for the Wii and DS I'll scoop that stuff right up and make sweet lovin' to it. What do you think? Anything awesome the guys at Mad Catz could do with this license or will it be wasted on a bunch of useless junk that no one actually wants.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Personally, unless a controller has some sort of special function, I find it pointless to buy anything other than official controllers, namely the exact same ones that ship with a console.
Besides, Mario and Zelda would only make the Wiimote look fugly. It's nice as it is.
Hmm... I'm thinking a Genesis pad with Gamecube-style shoulder buttons, analog stick on left side instead of d-pad... and a C-stick AND a B-stick on the right side. Oh, yeah. B-stick. I said it. (Very few people will understand the purpose Or what I'm talking about to begin with, I know...)
B-stick would have to be hardwired in to force it to work with the game, so it wouldn't work as a normal analog stick at all, with any game ever.
And, for the hardcore Melee players, they could add a special wavedash button, which will quickly and automatically shorthop>fastfall in the direction you hold the analog stick. :)
That's exactly what I was thinking. I can't see them making anything that I'd want, especially the shitty plastic add-ons, but classic controllers with the characters on them? Yes, that would be a win!
