Mad Catz gets exclusive rights to make Sonic-branded crap photo

Sega has continued its commitment to treating Sonic like a two-bit prostitute by striking a deal with third-party peripheral maker Mad Catz. The deal gives Mad Catz exclusive rights to produce a range of accessories bearing the dead smile of everyone's favorite molested rodent. Hooray for them!

Quite what kind of accessories are in the pipeline is anybody's guess, but Mad Catz is sure to make good use of this new deal. Expect all sorts of bright blue controllers, Wii balance boards, charge stations, and whatever other nonsense that peripheral makers like to spew up.

Oh Sonic ... your shame died with your pride.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. (AMEX/TSX: MCZ), a leading third-party interactive entertainment accessory provider, announced today that it has secured a license from Sega® of America, Inc., a leading developer and publisher of videogames, to produce branded videogame accessories based on the Sonic the Hedgehog intellectual property. The agreement gives Mad Catz North American rights to a range of accessories for all current videogame platforms.

“Sonic is one of the videogame industry’s most popular and enduring characters and we are thrilled to initiate this relationship with Sega to create Sonic-branded videogame accessories,” said Darren Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz. “We look forward to offering unique and exciting accessories to fans of this truly iconic videogame and popular culture character.”

Despite his death, Mad Catz has somehow managed to dig up Sonic's grave, and corpse fuck him.

So does this mean MW2 is being prostituted? Or any of the other hundred and one licenses lenses out to Mad Catz? How about those Rock Band accesories?

Seriously this does not make the Sonic franchise whored out. The Sonic games have made my beloved hedgehog a whore.

The real question here is: do we really need a report each time Mad Catz buys a license to continue their crapware making?

@Djnx: I tend to like Madcatz's work. At least, their earlier stuff. I have a Gamecube controller made by them that still works fine, though its analogue stick gives me trouble (It doesn't take long for it to stop).

Why? Seriously. It's obvious Sonic isn't what he used to be, so why waste the resources and time?

Poor Sonic. If you had told me this would happen to you years ago when I was a kid I wouldn't have believed it...

Oh Jim your fandom confuses me. Last week you were jumping for joy, and now you (And all of you for that matter), act as if such news never existed.

I suppose they are unrelated though. I don't like this too much either though. Mad Catz products suck.

How timely of you, Mad Catz! The two other people who liked Sonic Unleashed and I couldn't have picked a more appropriate time to fuel our subsequent appetite for Sonic accessories than almost a year after the fact.

Now, hang on a minute, Jim. I'm well aware of Sonic and SEGA's deplorable relationship, but this is a pretty cheap potshot. I haven't seen anyone complain about the SFIV controllers and arcade-stick, everyone loved those. For all we know, we might get some retro-styled Sonic/Genesis controllers in commemoration of the upcoming Needlemouse project. Just hope to god it doesn't blow my ass. Anyways, I know it's fun and popular to treat (almost) every article Sonic is in either as a joke or with utter pity, but it's becoming a really tired trend these days.

Then again, they're addons with Sonic on them. How else should it be reported? "ZOMG CONTROLLERS WIZ SAWNIC ON TZEM!!!11 IM GOING TO KUM." So, yeah. It'd be cool to see a stylish old-school Tails controller though.
