Macintosh version of BioShock hitting October 7 photo

The Macintosh version of BioShock is still happening. Earlier this morning, Feral Interactive -- the porters of the title -- pegged October 7th as the game’s release date. They also shared some pricing details: BioShock Mac will cost fifty bones in North American and forty European bones across Europe.

Feral Interactive is not supporting Intel integrated GMA video chipsets. Other than that small caveat any 1.8 GHz or above Macintosh with 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 gigs of hard drive space and a 128 MB or above graphics card should be able to run the game.

Better late than never right? If you’re wicked excited for this port you can pre-order the title through Feral Interactive’s online store through this link.

Poor Mac gaming. It was sad before, but since the Intel switch people just use Boot Camp and play on Windows.

I guess there's casual people out there who only own macs and pick this kind of stuff up for a lazy afternoon or something.

Ah! Yes! This is exactly what I've been looking for! I have a boot camped MBP but prefer to game on Mac where possible (cheers Blizz) and since I've been putting off buying this on ps3 Mac it is then!

Plus 7th Oct is my bday, so it's an omen that I should buy the Mac version.

Man, what's with the Mac hate. I have a mac and can duel boot windows on it for gaming. Still, I prefer running games on Mac natively, so this will probably be a purchase.
Yeah, get with the flow, people. Macs have been able to run windows for like four years now. So...all those jokes are outdated.

Wow, I didn't know mac users even had the IQ required to play a game (music and vid people you're exempt, naturally).

Mac gaming jokes aren't outdated. Really, Apple talks up Macs because of security, blah blah blah...and yet, you need to boot into Windows to play games? Isn't it ironic that Apple claims that Macs are so much more hip and fun than Windows machines, yet Windows machines have practically everything that Macs have PLUS a ton of games that Macs DON'T?

@Shadowiii

I own a mac, love 'em. Can't wait to finally upgrade to a machine that can even think about doing bootcamp.

But the mac gaming situation is ridiculous.

'Isn't it ironic that Apple claims that Macs are so much more hip and fun than Windows machines, yet Windows machines have practically everything that Macs have PLUS a ton of games that Macs DON'T?'

Microsoft has made the same claims about Macs being cool in their own Laptop Hunter ads, as if having a computer that doesn't look and run like a piece of junk is a negative.

You're also comparing Macs to generic Windows PCs as if all Windows PCs are basically the same? o.O

M$ loves MAC owners that use boot camp....

Have you ever seen a PC owner that wanted to (or needed to) run OSX?

A PC owner who wanted to run OSX? Sure, tons. In fact, they do. insanelymac community has been at it for years.

Every time DToid mentions a Mac port, the trolls emerge like clockwork, reinforcing the stereotype of gamers being territorial technology xenophobes.

My Apple mouse has two buttons, my collection of native OS X games is plentiful, and I don't have to sacrifice 10% of my CPU and RAM to the antivirus gods.

While on one hand this is good to see, on the other, it's unforgivable that they're charging fifty bucks for a game that you can get packaged with ANOTHER game for twenty total. And that, you know, it's two years old. Anyone who's wanted to play this game on a computer probably already has, through native Windows or dual-boot, so I seriously doubt sales will justify this, which, of course, translates to companies as there being no Mac gamers.

While I understand that services like Steam will essentially forever be confined to Windows as that's what the games it distributes are designed for, I'm sure people (myself included, naturally) would like to be able to stay on a native OS for more than Blizzard games and The Sims.

It's ok man, people who buy Macs don't mind getting ripped off

True. If you're going to spend 300% on the hardware, why not drop 300% on the games.

Neither do I ;). Despite the crappiness of previous versions of Norton, I'm quite pleased with the Norton Gaming Edition 2009. Use a lot less memory when on the XP desktop, 600-700MB total.

Also, as an IT person, I would advise you to actually run AV on your Mac. No OS is entirely secure and there have been a lot more trojans and such seen in the wild designed to affect Macs as of late. A lot of them mess with your DNS settings.

osx=ps3 - less install base means less support. everyone knows the ps3 is a better console, but i'd always advise people buy an xbox for the games and support.

i've just bought a mac and i have literally become 3x as cool as I was before and I was already pretty cool. life is great.
