Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Inside Gaming invited me back on to their show again where had a discussion on The Conduit’s poor sales and FPS games. We also made dick jokes.

The Conduit had a lot going for it and wasn’t that bad. I’ll just never get into any FPS game on the Wii, unless it’s on rails, like Dead Space: Extraction. I’d rather play Petz then have to fight with the aiming of the Wiimote.

Anyway, you can check out my little segment on Inside Gaming after the jump. There’s also a bonus video following the break of Inside Gaming’s latest feature called Flamebait. In the first episode, they target a couple of Web sites that have boundless faith in the PlayStation 3. Oh, fanboys!

Flamebait!

I really agree with you about the Wii and FPS games. It's a fucking nightmare for me, personally. Always end up aiming off screen or something.

Some people probably just suck at playing Wii FPS games.

Games like Metroid Prime and The Conduit's controls work just fine IF you know how to aim at a screen that is.

Hamza obviously doesn't read Game Informer, I've seen billions of ads for The Conduit floating around in some of the more recent issues. And that Flamebait video was absolutely brilliant.

I agree that third party does crap for advertising there games on the wii. well even a 15 second commercial is better then relying on word of mouth all the time.

Relying on printed adds in game magazines is a bit of a dated strategy though.
That money would have been better spent if they went with online banner advertisements.

However, you're right that Flamebait video was awesome.

Hiltz: I can aim just fine and have fun with the Wii with non-FPS games. Aiming is just too shaky on the Wii. Not fun.

I honestly thought the Wii would be a lot better for FPS games, but apparently it's not. Although I still say Metroid Prime 3 has the best FPS controls of any game I've every played in my life.

pedrovay: Metroid is the exception since you can lock-on to targets.

I disagree about The Conduit not getting enough advertising. I don't know about anybody else, but I saw The Conduit commercial a ton of times, and I barely watch T.V. Not to mention that I think I remember seeing some magazine ads as well.

The Conduit advertising wasn't the problem: I hate to beat the shit of a dead horse, but the Wii simply just isn't made to appeal to your typical FPS aficionado (Coming from a guy that loves PFS but wants to play The Conduit). Your normal FPS guy will play the games that came out for the console He/She bought: A 360 or a PS3. I hate to assume, but something gives me the feeling that not a whole lot of people bought a Wii because they knew it would be filled to the brim with quality FPS games.

But that's just what I think.

Face it folks, the Wii is the worst console you can play a FPS game on. The only saving grace is being able to play rail shooters thanks to the motion controls. The only reason somebody would buy a fps game on the Wii is because they don't have a 360 or PS3 or a decent PC. If they combine a FPS game mechanics with railshooter mechanics, then they're might be hope.

I absolutely disagree with this. Railshooters are fun, I'll give you that, but there is absolutely no reason to say that about FPS on the wii. Some like it, some don't. It's that simple.

Wait, what? There are people that don't like using the Wiimote for FPS? Crazy?! I would have thought there would be more FPS frustration with the analogue sticks!

@Hamza
I really disagree about the controls. I think I am going to have a hard time going back to dual analog shooters after this. My only complaint is that I sometimes grenade suicide when I scratch my nose.

Also, I fail to see how you have to get off your ass when playing the Conduit...there's no balance board interface. Also also, how can you be such a fan of Red Steel 2 if you don't like shooters on the Wii?

@Jack Maverick
I haven't seen a single add anywhere. Why the hell are you reading Game Informer?

I don't get how you can not like FPS on the Wii. It is one of the few hardcore genres that it actually does well.

The Wii's problem isn't with the controls... it's that it is underpowered. People who can't handle the motion controls or IR aiming just plain suck at the controls... luckily I am awesome at them and playing the Conduit was an amazing experience by way of the controls. If you keep aiming off screen and doing stupid crap with the controls, it's because you have terrible coordination, a simple joypad doesn't require as much. My only wish is that the Wii was HD and got more games that come out on the other systems, albeit with motion control.

Everyone here is WRONG. Wii is THE ONLY console to play FPS on. It's near perfection. Keyboard+Mouse only beats it by a small margin. CoD:WaW, MoH:H2, MP3, The Conduit, etc are all awesome games that play better on the Wii than any other console. Go cry to your inferior joysticks that were meant for Pacman.

Have you ever played MoH:H2? That game is awful.

The Conduit shat on that game in every way possible.

MoH:H2 is freakin awesome. AAA+++ title. I bought it not too long after it came out. Slow paced FPS don't get too much better than that game. The online is top notch as well.
