I've never heard of M.I.A before, but this story makes her sound like a silly person. She's some singer/political activist and she believes that violent videogames are teaching children to be violent and preparing them to go to war. She even said that, having seen real violence herself in Sri Lanka, she doesn't know whether her experiences are worse than these videogames or not. Seriously.
"I don't know which is worse. The fact that I saw it in my life has maybe given me lots of issues, but there's a whole generation of American kids seeing violence on their computer screens and then getting shipped off to Afghanistan," she claims. "They feel like they know the violence when they don't. Not having a proper understanding of violence, especially what it's like on the receiving end of it, just makes you interpret it wrong and makes inflicting violence easier."
Funny that she mentioned Afghanistan. By all accounts, there are some pretty violent bastards out in the Middle East, many of them very young males, and something tells me they didn't get their tendencies from videogames. I should think somebody claiming to have firsthand experience of violence would have the maturity to realize that videogames have never been needed to encourage inhumanity, and that it's something unfortunately hardwired into our basic evolutionary nature. Of course, it's just quicker to say that videogames are doing it, isn't it?
Blaming a media source for violence is an easy ticket. It's intellectually lazy to do so, and you'd think we could expect more from a political activist who has had traumatic experiences herself. Apparently this M.I.A character would rather keep that easy ticket though. Shame.
M.I.A: Video games teach kids violence [CVG]
A bad case of foot in mouth disease methinks.
And a (BLAM), and take your money
All I wanna do is (BLAM BLAM BLAM)
And a (BLAM), and take your money"
Fucking hypocrunt.
I can see why she said what she did, talking out of your arse is fun, fun, fun!
As a side note, she has no musical talent herself, she just samples people who do. She's a Kanye.
Also, by I just want to bang bang bang, I don't mean the fucking amazing song by GroupX.
This hypocritical whore can blow me....
...up.
Yeah, i went there.
In other news, I'm half Sri-Lankan, never been, but it's hardly been a nice place to go for the last few decades, my family left as the shit kicked off. - maybe when the shit settles.
also, Jim: Cool shades bro, the new pic is HAWT. Have my babies.
More violent games = less real world violence anyone?
What SASUGA RIVAL said.
We all can agree that Jim is a sexy, sexy man.
In other news, someone dwindling in the public spotlight (little miss M.I.A) said something to get attention. Ignore the troll people.
Repeat 20 more times
Shut up MIA, you hypocrite...
Jimmy...Ugh. At least Paper Planes had a catchy chorus.
Then shoot her in the goddamn head. That's what Mario would do.
She never said that video games cause violence, just that they only see it from their own perspective and don't think of the victims. Not once in that quote did I see her putting the blame of violence on games or anything else.
Seems to be the norm with this site to post bullshit headers just to get more views, sort it out.
Let me introduce you to the magic of context.
The REAL question is, "What will shitty parents blame violence on next?"
But either way, you could say this about all entertainment. I just don't think what she is saying is as bad is it's made out to be.
But some people confuse "makes inflicting violence easier", with "makes inflicting violence desireable". It is one thing to say it makes violence easier to cope than to say it makes violence more attractive.
Same mistake is made by Jack Thompson, don't you fall into that.
But who cares what some nobody blames the ails of society for?
