Lunar: The Silver Star Story remake coming to PSP photo

Game Arts' Lunar games still stand in my top ten list of favorite games of all time. I adore both Lunar and Lunar 2, and play them whenever I get the downtime to enjoy them. Both Sega CD and PlayStation versions. I like to mix it up. And now I'll be able to mix it up even more with a new version of the first game, coming soon to the PSP.

LUNAR: Harmony of Silver Star is a Game Arts developed full remake of the 1992 title, complete with reworked graphics and game play interface. It ws revealed in this week's Famitsu that this new game will sport an isometric view and hand drawn characters.1UP says that publisher Gungho mentions an expanded backstory and remastered music. I hope they don't mess with the music too much, as Noriyuki Iwadare's score really makes the game.

This page is going to be the official webpage come Friday, so check back then to get a peek at the new game.

Are there any Lunar series fans out there? Are you looking forward to this remake?

I might try to pick that up. And Star Ocean. Never played either.

I love the Lunar series so much. Some of the best old school RPG action, there. Wonderful humor too... first game I ever remember hearing poop jokes! <3 Nall

I might have to check this out. I already have Lunar:SSSC for the PlayStation, but the promise of hand-drawn characters and an expanded story make it sound like this is more than just a simple port.

For those of you out there who have never played Lunar in its various incarnations, please check this out! This is one of the most charming and fun RPGs of the 1990s.

Mmm I think I have heard of them, and I am liking the retro air in that header picture. I'll sneak into it.

I've never played any of the Lunar games, so I'll most certainly have to keep an eye out for this. It sounds like it's right up my alley.

I actually re-played silver star story complete a couple months ago before I got my PS3...such a great, despite its linearity. and yeah, I don't know how they're planning on improving the music...that was one of the high points. and I doubt this will have the wonderful packaging of SSSC but a great game nonetheless. we need more original games like this today.

I would love to have this come over here. I missed any decent release of it (due to skipping the PS1 and getting a PS2) and the only thing close I played was a really obviously diluted version of it in the GBA Lunar Legend my brother bought cheap and used a couple years ago.

I loved Lunar on Sega CD, but was disappointed in the PS version. They ended up changing a lot of the stuff I liked the most about it (certain events and parts of the overall story). It ended up feeling like most directors cuts of movies do, where the pacing is off and events are changed just enough to kill some of the most dramatic and memorable sections in the original (see: Last of the Mohicans). Hopefully they stay true to the Sega CD version this time (except for the updated graphics).

Maybe I'll finally play this. Despite being, historically, an RPG fan, I never got around to either Lunar game.

I've enjoyed the Lunar games ever since I stumbled upon them by accident when they came out on the PlayStation. I dunno how this new isometric view is going to work out, though.

And I'm totally with you on the soundtrack, Dale. I regularly fire up tunes from the first and second (thanks for including them with the game, ghost of Working Designs).

Both Lunar on the Sega-Cd are masterpieces. Old school RPG at it's finest. Oh the Nostalgia of owning a sega-cd and having those games that alot of people missed. I still have the original CD's with me but not the system.
I agree with the fact that they ruined those games on the Ps1.
Hope they will get this one spot-on with the original s-cd version.
Hey People !! get those playing games on an emulator and play them. you won't be disapointed.

Yikes, I remember using the Gameshark trying to beat the last boss on the PS version and just BARELY making it out alive. Very difficult game. Oh, and I didn't know what the soap was supposed to do, so I ended up using it on the guys. Great.

I'm tentatively intersted, depending on what they do for this remake. Since the PSP is more powerful than the GBA, I would imagine they will do a better job,

But I'll have to wait and see

And here I [acquired by totally legal means] the Playstation games for nothing. If this gets announced for US release, I'll hold off and pick up a tangible copy.

Judgeing from the scan its going for a mix of the GBA system and the PS one.

my friend really likes Lunar, so I might pick it up via her suggestion. I'm really glad I got a PSP now, all these remakes and such of games I've never had access to before are coming out for it.

This makes me want to pull Lunar from my collection to play, but I already have Sacred 2 and Devil Summoner 2 descending upon me. Definitely something to consider when July rolls around.

@Mr Glider - I still have my Ghaleon puppet still in his original box. It's probably the first time that I never opened something because I was afraid of it getting dirty. :)

When I saw the magazine scan yesterday, I was so hyped. I seriously love Lunar! Though, I love Lunar 2 a lot more. But I'm pretty damn excited about this, especially now I have play it on my PSP. I hope the remake is really a remake and just not completely the same thing.

@Chocobo Knight: ODD! ME TOO! I've never taken mine out of the box. There's only 3 toys in my entire home like that. That makes us puppet soul-brothers.

Also, Ronfar FTW!

Lunar was GREAT on segaCD. I've been tempted to try one of the remakes, though it sounds like every remake has futzed with something.

The battle system and story were great on Sega CD.

Nothing new? No new content of any such? Just frilly pretty stuff? Come on, it's gonna take more than refurbishing an old game to make me buy something I've already played.

I'm all for remakes of this lesser known series. However, I'd rather see new jrpg ideas that would take jrpgs to the next level, than selling ages old stuff.

Damn! Hurry up with Infinite Space and Archaic Sealed Heart on DS.

Not a fan of the redo with the isometric view. I'll keep checking in to see hwat is new, or just redone to see if I'll be down for this. I played the originals on the SCD, with Lunar 1 being my almost favorite rpg of all time. I also have the PS1 remakes with the complete super awesome collectible boxes to boot. So, we'll see how much I need this new one, but anyone who hasn't played the first Lunar should treat themselves to this amazing game any way they can.
