Luigi is a playable race in Super Mario Galaxy! photo

Where I come from, my online haunt long before Destructoid, we have a certain rule -- thou shalt pay homage to the Green God. The superior Mario brother, Luigi, is something of a cult figure in my part of the 'hood, so it's with great pleasure that I wake up to this awesome news tidbit -- Luigi is a playable character in Super Mario Galaxy.

Upon completion of the game, it's been revealed that, much like with New Super Mario Brothers, you will be able to control the Holy One himself in all his grass-colored glory. Praise be! Subscribers to Luigism everywhere will be dancing in the streets and, hopefully, calling off the Luihad they'd declared.

I don't mind this spoiler, Jim. It's a Mario game, the story isn't that important, it's the gameplay. If anything, this has only gotten me more excited.

this harkens back to Super Mario 2 where Luigi has a different more difficult skill set than Mario.

Ok, so you mix game mechanics and compare them with secrets inside the game? I consider it a spoiler since it comes from the game guide not from a screenshot from nintendo but whatever, always happen the same with this kind of games.

I only hope that the next post won't be about Yoshi dying trying to protect a planet from a meteorite.

It's Mario, not the Da Vinci Code. Nothing's been 'spoiled' and the game's enjoyment won't be hampered by knowing Luigi is in it. Lord almighty.

Awesome. I am also one of those who prefers the Luigi. Fucking Mario stealing all the limelight. Good that Luigi will control differently too. Will give me more excuses to play the game repeatedly.

I mentioned it to a friend, and suggested they guess who the other playable character could be. After guessing, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, etc. I finally just hinted "who would be the most boring choice possible" and then it was an easy guess.

Super Mario One, Super Mario 64 (I dont remember being Luigi)... Super Mario Sunshine or Paper Mario? (havent played those last two)

The point is, it was supposed to be a reward for finishing the game, even Kotaku had a warning.. This was a pretty uncool move..

i might have been mad if they told me how the bowser battle played, or shown me the themes to all the worlds, but the only thing we found out was that you can do every thing that mario does but with luigi

just like almost all mario games (-sunshine and the original 64 and paper marios)

My first reaction to reading this was that it's a spoiler, sorry but that's what my brain is telling me therefore I'm pissed off now. I remember finishing Super Mario 64 with 120 Stars not knowing if I would get anything for my efforts, I was so pleased to find out Yoshi was waiting for me at the top of the castle.
Jim, you've ruined a part of Super Mario Galaxy for me. Be a man & admit your mistake.

You guys act as if playing as Luigi is spoiling the game.

I on the other hand believe that playing as Luigi is a GAME FEATURE! I want to know I can play as Luigi because it will make me want to buy the game (and a Wii).

I concur that this story constitutes a spoiler. If Luigi would have been playable from the start, then it wouldn't be a spoiler. But, since he is "unlocked" it kinda sucks Jim put this in the title. I'm sure some people would be upset with other games if they found out what was "unlocked" after completion. But, too late now, what can you do...
