Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Ludacris released a new CD called "Theater of the Mind" last month and a special bonus track called "Press the Start Button" was included in the Netherlands version of the album. The song is all about videogames and Ludacris drops a ton of game references throughout the track. Contra, Grand Theft Auto, God of War, Ultimate Doom, Super Mario, Mechwarrior to a ton of other games are mentioned.

The song is really good and the way Ludacris ties in all of the game titles together is pretty awesome. Check out the song and let us know what you think of it. What's your favorite verse?

Good stuff. Two of my favorite things, video games and music. The 2nd verse was pretty good.

I expected to hate that, and I didn't. I don't like rap much to be honest, but that was actually pretty good.

Still, I doubt I'll be buying any of his albums any time soon

I like rap. I even like some Ludacris. I'm just not feeling this, though.

I actually don't mind Ludacris and have a couple of his CD's but this song was pretty "meh" IMO

There has been a lot of video game content in rap lately. Chamillionaire, Lupe Fiasco, Lil Wayne, and many other have done verses or entire songs about games. Or, there's up-and-comer Charles Hamilton who did an entire mixtape based on Sonic the Hedgehog called Sonic the Hamilton.

it was a good hiphop track but if you listen/read the lyrics half the hooks are him just putting a play on game titles.
I like ludacris but this feels like he just skimmed wikipedia for names of popular and influential games then just put a spin on them to use as lyrics.

Now if he had done something like what HarassmentPanda had mentioned or even what Del did with his proto culture track than it might have been more satisfying to listen to.

This rap sucks. It's got nothing on Del's rap about the ps1 / dreamcast - - > Protoculture

Or MadHatter. Best video game rap album ever: 8-Bit Bullshit.

Yeah. that was pretty good, I guess, but did he really throw a go, diego, go reference in there? Doesn't that feel a little out of place?

Regardless of your opinion on the music, its cool to see it in something so mainstream. Even if it was only in the Netherlands.
