Lucky little tosspot gets BioShock a week before release date photo

A little bit of fun from the NeoGaf forums. A user posted a picture of his newly purchased Xbox 360 elite with a copy of Madden 08 and ... is that ... BioShock? Yes, apparently he wandered into a Toys R' Us and there it was, a standard copy of BioShock available to buy a week before the official street date. As is the way with anything on the Internet, the integrity of the poster was called into question because nobody, ever, is allowed to know or have something that others don't. The critics were silenced, however, when the hapsome gamer opened up the case and took a picture of the sweet disc inside (picture below). Best of all was this comment from the world's first BioShock owner:

I haven't been hyped about the game much, but that 1upshow special made it look damned good. I was buying an Elite, TRU had that buy Madden, get other game for 50% off, so I decided I will gamble with 30 bucks.

As another on the message board pointed out, what brutal irony it is that the one person to own BioShock right now is one of the few not hyped for the thing. He got it half price, too. Yeah, I know what you're thinking and I'm thinking the same thing -- let's find out where he lives and grab some pitchforks. This will not stand!

@TheExit, you should go to walmarts and targets and just ask if they have a copy in the backroom, tell them that the game was supposed to come out this week and they usually don't know the difference.

At least you guys can get the game. Here in India, we'd prolly have to wait till December to even see it in stores.

According to the collected info on a [url=http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/15/some-toys-r-us-stores-selling-bioshock-early/]JoyStiq[/url[ post, you should be able to quicky grab it from your local Toys'R'Us. Bastards.

Apparently that was happening at a lot of Toys R Us's. Not mine though, and only for 360. If you really want a laugh you should check out the speculation being thrown around on the 2kGames forum. Those nerds are straight losing their minds.

Imagine what that would run for on eBay? especially when it's someone who doesn't really care about the game, he'd easily make his money back since he didn't even pay full price for it..

If I didn't pre order the special edition at a different location I'd be all over this. Last time I tried something like this I had the ACTUAL DS LITE in my hand at Wal-Mart 3 days before launch and they stopped me at the register. Fuckers.

from my pitiful understanding of the retail industry, this can cost TRU a shitload of money. Target got fined out the ass for breaking street on the DS Lites and had to pay a fine for each one sold.

No dice here in Canada. The toys r us chick was getting calls evey 5 mins here. She lost her mind, then I explained and said, no shipment yet. Looks like Canada has to wait until the 21st. Maybe I'll drive over the Buffalo and scope it out there. Its only a half hour drive.

Today at the store I work at we got about three emails reminding us that Bioshock, can be not sold, displayed, or anything of the sort till the street date. So given the seriousness of these emails I am going to say that toys-r-us have messed up and let the game slip out early. I wonder what 2k will have to say to the TRU. I am sure they must have some sort of legal actions they can take.

We also got about a half dozen calls concerning the release date of the game.

That's funny because at the store I work at, we can't physically sell something before the release date even if we wanted to. The computer won't let us.
