LucasArts backs out of E3 2008 photo

You already know that Activision bailed on the ESA and is now not attending E3. LucasArts also passed on renewing their ESA membership, but said earlier that they would still be attending E3 this year. Now they've changed their minds.

LucasArts says that there is "too much noise surrounding" the show, according to company spokesperson Margaret Grohne. What? Maybe they will be going to Activision's non-E3 event in Los Angeles next month. We know they have plenty to show off, including Fracture, The Force Unleashed, and the Wii-exclusive Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Don't worry about E3, though. Plenty of companies still plan to attend. EA Canada's Jeff Brown called Activision out for bailing on the ESA, saying that their exit showed a "lack of leadership." But they assure us that they're still "100 percent comitted" to E3.

"EA is 100 per cent committed. There's Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, THQ, Disney, a bunch of others – and I assume all the others are still locked into it," he said.

"For that matter, Activision Vivendi is going to be doing an event of some description in Los Angeles at the same time, so there's still critical mass. Everyone's going to be in Los Angeles this summer and it's hard to imagine it isn't going to be a successful event."

E3 or not, be sure to check out IGN's new interview with LucasArts on The Clone Wars.

The less I have to hear about Star Wars games the better.

Reading that IGN interview hurt. The Wii exclusive game sounds like trash.

They can't even give us a good explanation of how it works. They just keep saying "LIGHTSABER"!!!!!

Fuck.

Who cares! LucasArts were the most exclusive set of pricks at E3 year to year. There were the ones that started limiting access to their games and showcase areas. Other companies would have a public area and then a private one for the big time press and investors... but oh no, not LucasArts, you had to have a Wookie with you to get in without an appointment and I always left my Wookie at home.

Way to go LucasArts bailing on the show that you helped make an exclusive CF that is completely falling apart!

And yes, I'm still bitter about the Ewoks and Jar Jar!

I dunno, Star Wars games just seem repetitive to me these days. All its become is Jedi this and Jedi that. I guess it must work because they keep making them, so I assume they have a following that keeps buying them. To me Star Wars is more than just Jedi nonsense and the force. I'd like to see some more originality in the Star Wars universe as far as games go, but I guess if it isn't broke for the majority of fans, why fix it.

I mean, running around as a Jedi is always fun but I'd like to see something more creative like a plot driven mystery adventure game with political intrigue involving military factions between multiple planets. Probably easier to just throw Jedi at each other and call it a day I suppose.
